There are lot of new folks & some of old ones are busy getting last of fall cleanup, winter chores done before snow comes,& Kirk & Carol are getting ready to sell & get a new house so lots of changes around here. Hi! I'm hoping somebody else has seen these beauties... I was drinking coffee by the pond this morning, watching my fish eat breakfast, when a big purple dragonfly zoomed by. I didn't even know there was such a thing as a purple dragonfly! I took some pics and got online to try to ID it. Turns out its listed as a vulnerable species in its native Florida. So, what's it doing in Central Louisiana?!? There's more!... It flew around in circles at the perimeter of the pond, and then I saw it hitch up and mate with a yellow-brown dragonfly. I read on the internet that the female of this species is that color. I have green dragonflies, blue dragonflies, and now this purple one. I hope it stays. hello jan! :) thank you for your sweet comments!! :)) hmmm... i dunno why you couldn't print off the tutorial...that's funny, you mean only the rock came up? i do have a dragonfly post about 2/3 posts back. i have taken pictures of the dragonflies i painted on canvas. dunno if that'll be a better help :) ooo... that's a big dragonfly you've got there... don't forget to post pictures of it when it's done! what i did with my dragonflies was ... i painted them first on an A4 canvas then scanned them into the computer. that way i can resize then and print them out as decoupage images. you should consider that for your dragonfly as well, tho if your galvanized metal is curve (like if it's a watering can for instance) it'll be difficult to scan. just a suggestion ...but if you first paint the 15 inch df on a piece of canvas then scan it into your computer... you can then cut and glue the original to your galvanized metal. and then varnish over. that way you kill 2 birds with one stone :) just a suggestion :) hugs luthien :)) Here is a link that might be useful: the link that'll take you to the dragonflies on canvas

Thank you so much EVERYONE! Uh oh... I probably gave you a wrong idea about the size. It's sort of a large a table top candle holder. The wing span of the dragonfly is 8 1/2 inches. Slow... you're right.. it holds a tea light candle... behind the white disk thingy. I'll take a better picture. Ladyronnie... I LOVE your dragonfly pieces! I remember when you put the stepping stone on the forum. I'd love to make a leaf print..a nd you were so clever to put the dragonfly on top! Beautiful! I still may take the dragonfly off the stand and see about hanging it on the wall. We have very little shelf space. I may just hang it outside our front door! Hmmm... decision made! Sometimes I feel almost like I'm discussing things with y'all... yup...addiction! :)
