I have had soil mealies, and they are very hard to get rid of. Below are two photos of them on a Thanksgiving cactus I had. One is the mealies in the drip tray, one is the mealies in the soil. Mine look smaller than what you have in your photo, as far as I can tell. What I do for them is this. If the plant can be propagated from a cutting, I do that. It has to be a part of the plant that didn't touch the soil. Then I toss the soil and roots out. The pot I wash in lysol and let dry. I have tossed out macrame plant hangers that I made just to be sure. If it is a plant that goes dormant, I let it go dormant, remove every bit of the soil and toss it, wash the pot and the bulb, corm, root or whatever, and then store it in a bag until just before it is time to replant. The mealies can't survive a winter in the dry air. This has worked for calla lilies, and Hippiastrums. Fortunately these groups are most of the plants that I have. If it can't be propagated, I toss the plant and the soil and replace it. Or I put it outside in the 20 below zero weather, and then toss it. If it is an irreplaceable plant, you could try a systemic, but it isn't all that effective. Some people have had good luck with treating the soil with a good long soak in hot water, but that hasn't worked for me. The mealies make a sort of hydrophobic area that they hang out in, and then go right back to root munching. You can see the hydrophobic layer in the photo to the right of the red circles around the mealies. The ladies on the African violet form suggest marathon mixed in with the soil. I don't use a lot of chemicals. I took cuttings of this cactus, so I still have it.

Hi, Kelly & Vapor, @celeste/NH Thank you for your ideas! i checked my friend’s location and she has humidity, too, so I am reworking my list. Rugosa are good. Kordes are great for no BS in humidity. Do you know what Old Garden Roses are best for zone 4 and humidity? @Kelly Tregaskis Collova Earth Angel & Madame Anisette are zone 5, but you have grown them in your zone 4. Are you zone 4a or 4 b? Where in your yard can you grow them? Maybe if you grow them on south side of home it keeps them warmer since they are not nade for your zone? However, climate has warmed all over and temps may not be getting as low as we are zoned, either. Also, did the cold winter get your Olivia? Olivia does really well in humidity. I have humidity & she gets no BS. Princess Alexandria of Kent gets BS, so I will not recommend for her. The DA roses list in my post above are zoned 4, but maybe DA are just not very hardy? Lichfield Angel, though, may be their most hardy rose-I have her and she grows no matter what where I have lost other roses. Yes, I heard less fragrant DA newer ones-thanks. Maybe if planted on south side home they will keep warmer in zone 4.

Clearly not the eggs of the black swallowtail, which are white/ivory in color and not what anyone would call 'microscopic'. It's the black swallowtail that will use parsley and other members of that plant family as host for their eggs/caterpillars. I'm still thinking that they are aphid eggs, either deposited by the aphids inside or brought in as eggs when our original poster hauled her plants from the back porch. The adults are already present...and the eggs are described as tiny, shiny, oval, and black.

Hi Indigovenice, I would say your plants are grown from seed from what I can see. It is very unlikely that the Kruger National Park Nursery, where you bought your plants would bother with cuttings. Although your plants are young, you can see the making of a caudex/base in my opinion.... Cuttings tend to look more like a stick in a pot until they grow older, where they may develop a thicker stem/base look. Seedlings have a taper from base to top. Here's a photo to help explain better. The pot on the left, has cuttings from some of our plants. Notice what I call the stick in a pot look. The pot on the right with the pink flower is a seed grown plant, notice the taper of the trunk. (These are Adenium Obesums) Also here's a close up photo of our soil mix that we use. It is a cactus/succulent mix. It is a bark style soil mix. This mix drys out well in our heat within two days, giving our plants moisture, but yet not staying wet for too long. (The soil is wet in this photo, from the storm we had last night) We do not use a gritty mix in our heat, as our plants would cook in our heat with a gritty mix. (Our plants are in full sun all day.) You said, that your plants were bought in black plastic bags and that they didn't have many fine feeder roots. It's possible that the black plastic heated up too much and either cooked the fine feeder roots or that the excess heat may have stopped the plant from being able to grow feeder roots. Although these plants love heat, they are still vulnerable to excess heat as seedlings. If you think about it, all plants need a healthy established root system to flourish. This is especially important in seedlings. It is abit of trial and error to learn what your plants need in your environment. Most of us here on the forum have struggled while we were learning, so you are in good company. Many of us have killed a plant or two. :)
