susan, I was over there today, she wanted me to see how the Harisons are loaded with buds. They are, but the blooms aren't quite as spectacular yet, but it is early for our zone. You should have seen that scene today. In just one year, that group of Harisons has almost enclosed that azalea, hard to believe the several bigger plants put out so much new growth in one year. In time, she may have to prune it, but she doesn't like to; I'm inclined to let them go their way myself. Even the leggy one wasn't noticeable with all the new growth. Yes, they are wonderful! You should see my spindly little thing with two buds on it. I'll try to find the rose id forum but probably won't know what the other one is.

Hi Barb, I am in Wisconsin, and drive to Chicago often. I would love to have some Harrison rose plantlets !! We can set up trade - I have sedums, and some roses like champlain, rambling red. red cascade etc for which I can give cuttings.. Please let me know where you are situated. Thank you, Paul! That makes a lot of sense, especially given how fragrant it is. I'll check back in a day or two to see if the colors have changed as the flower opens.

I like alot of strong colors. What I found interesting to do was to put the plants I was buying together and then immediately I could see if they didn't work as a group. I also find the white and light colored roses in my bed help balance things out. In your situation I may consider swapping out one of the strong colors for a white (like Iceberg) which will give they eye a resting place that is still really pretty and help focus attention on the other two. Here is one shot of my rose bed. Imagine taking the white ones out and putting in a saturated yellow in their place. Here is a shot with saturated orange and pinks. Again you can imagine a strong yellow next to them and see what you think. I've been considering a yellow for my garden as I used to have Golden Wings but it got too big so we took it out. While I love saturated yellow, I have problems figuring out where I would put it. Instead I'm considering more subtle yellows like Chantilly Cream. However, I really do love Sparkle and Shine which is a bright pure yellow so may yet find a place for it.
