tmelrose I've got good news! Send me your address, and I'll put several types of lily seeds in the mail for you. Included are blackberry lily mixed colors, and leopard lily Purple. There are 3 Asiatic lillies. I got them in a round robin, and won't be using them. Lillies are toxic to kittys. Also, I planted almost everything I got in a round robin, but I have just a few other random seeds I won't be using. I would rather they be planted in someone's garden. Let me know what types of flowers/colors you like. I'll see if any of my leftovers match. Don't go so far as to list plant names, but rather something like: natives, reseeders, annuals, vines. I don't have any gaillardia, or sunrise coriopsis. If you can spare 6-9 seeds of each, that would be perfect. If not, I'm happy to send off the lillies and some of my extras for the joy of giving. Gorgeous as usual,love those red lilies 2nd from the bottom.Was in wal mart today and they were just getting a plant shipment in,they had a beautiful red lily,wasn't a day lily though and the other names escape me now.They were 4.50 in a gallon pot.I didn't have time to linger or the stamina,had just come from the dr and got a shot in my knee,so was in pain. Can you tell? Yes and no. Some hybrids do have leaves that are a bit different- a bit narrower or bigger, darker, frilly or twisting, ect. So I can tell those from Fulvas. But there are also a LOT of hybrids that have leaves pretty much the same as Fulvas and those I can't tell apart unless they are blooming. In my yard Fulvas can pop up a week or two earlier and be a bit bigger than some of the other lilly foliage, but that isn't always a good indicator in everyones yard. If there are Fulvas and hybrids together. Fulvas tend to naturalize much faster, thus popular for ditch plantings for ages. Hybrids tend to be slower than Fulvas. So it's easier for Fulvas to overtake the hybrids and choke them out. Both with tuberous rhizomes spread and seed drop. It appears as a reversion or something odd with the hybrids. Hybrid tuberous rhizomes won't change gentics- their seed drop can be less reliable and viable, but they won't really revert to Fulvas completely. If you have hybrid in Fulvas. You can deadhead the Fulvas as they bud up. Leave the stalks to help mark them. When the hybrid blooms, use a marker to mark that one. As soon as it's done blooming and safe to start moving, remove it from the Fulvas. Give zero craps about how much you damage or distrub the Fulvas in the process, they will be fine. Probably appreciate being rucked up. Take your hybrid and put it somewhere safe to grow out a bit- a pot, new garden spot, ect. Be prepared to weed out Fulvas from that spot, no matter how careful you think you cleaned that hybrid up before replanting.
