All bets are off for Thanksgiving at our house.
Last year, unfortunately, we accepted the invitation to DH's best friend since grade school (he is 82) and they are perpetually on a "diet".
Non fat margarine, non fat milk for the mashed potatoes, fat free everything and they even refused to eat the apple crisp and the pumpkin cheesecake pie I took.
And, because I took my own real butter, I was deemed an unfit wife because my DH had bypass surgery 7 years ago.

Carol, that's unbelievable: I respect those who eat low fat and I'm one of those, but I dislike people who push it on others or make people feel guilty about their choices, specially on thanksgiving, sheeshâ¦..

All bets are off here too itâÂÂs just DH and me. Last September doc said my cholesterol was high, 220, wanted to put me on statins I said give me some time to see if I could do it myself he gave me 8 weeks. I cut down on Best Foods mayo and started using coconut oil for everything. Mixed half with butter it really is good, thanks grainlady, even for making cookies. I came up with a recipe for a pilaf made with steele cut oats that not bad and I donâÂÂt like oatmeal.

I started taking cholestoff and red yeast rice supplements. Had blood work done yesterday and woke up to email telling me my cholesterol went down 45 points so we are eating all the so called bad stuff even made a cheesecake.

It's amazing how one day of gluttony can wipe out two weeks of mindful eating and exercise. Sigh. I never should have gotten on the scale this morning but at least that shock will get me back on track again, I hope. I still have to deal with leftovers. I love a good turkey sandwich on white bread with a lot of mayo. No, no, must not do it.

Try making a mayo substitute. Non-fat greek yogurt, a bit of favorite mustard, ac vinegar or lemon with some zest, a bit of horseradish if you want a bit of bite, some sriracha...not enough to make it spicy if you don't like the heat...some turmeric for color, and a dab of honey.
Just try a small half cup yogurt to start and test. You can customize it to your taste. Give it an hour rest in the fridge to develop and marry the ingredients. I always have a version in the fridge in a jelly jar. Add 1/4 cup ac vinegar to 1/4 cup yogurt mayo and a bit of olive oil, parm, fetta, or blue cheese, herbs,for a creamy salad dressing.
As x mayo lovers, and having made this switch years ago, we now find mayo greasy and weird. We changed our taste buds i suppose.
Starting my stock this morning i made a chicken salad with apples, grapes, celery, green onion, olives, parsley...and my zesty mayo. (for tomorrow)
Already had leftover turkey and biscuit stuffing hash....with eggs. I'm about to explode all over again, lol.

Thanks for those tips. I have tried the lower calorie commercial mayos and bleah! I do substitute plain greek yogurt for mayo in cooking --well, I use half of each but it makes a difference.

Pam - I made this sensible leftovers sandwich for lunch and highly recommend it. Light mayo keeps it guilt free and I don't think you'd taste it enough to object. It's an Adam Richman "recipe." From bottom to top, grilled challah, cranberry, breast meat, mayo, garlic powder and pepper, onions, sweet potatoes, walnuts, dark meat, fried stuffing, gravy, bread.
