Those that are more prone to burn stay in areas that get less sun. Hosta will adapt wonderfully to more light, in fact they thrive in it. They may not always look the best they can be but I guarantee your plants will grow faster and set more roots. The other side of this is that they will need more watering. I tend to keep my blues out of too much sun as they wouldnt stay blue too long. Dave

tt, I'm not growing carrots, but one of my neighbors does every year. So I used this as an excuse to go over and visit with her. ;-) Here's what she said: She uses a potting soil that she gets from a local nursery that's mostly very small bark fines and muck. I use the same one for my tomatoes. She mixes a lot more builders sand into it for the carrots. Use a pot that's at least 2 inches deeper than what they say the carrot will grow and thin them to about 2 inches apart. You want your potting soil to hold moisture, but also drain very well. The bigger carrots are prone to cracking if you don't keep constant moisture. Feed every other watering with a 1/2 strength general purpose fertilizer, she mixes a small amount of time release in the potting soil when she plants. She also said to not grow the purple, look for one called super sweet or something like that for the kids and now is the perfect time to plant carrots for here. Corrie
