Taken scions from a stockplant which is growing at a nursery is a complete differend thing, because they are growing in a healthy and fertilized controled situation. Most scions of original witches' brooms are poor growing and are thin like a match wood. For this reason I would take the tip shoot as well, because like I mentioned before, it contains 70% of all the energy and for this reason it produces a thicker scion. The 4th pic is showing us the best tip shoot scion of the whole branch which will develop in the most perfect nursery stockplant for furthur propagation matters. My way of thinking could be strange for you but the difference is that I think like a professional nurserymen and you think like a hobbiest... ;0)

zookatie thanks for the coral bean cutting offer. I do want one but my rooting skills are not worth the postage. My success rate is below 10%, your cuttings will be better off with someone else. Ken, your Brim Cup is wonderful. I planted mine in the fall of 2006. Last year it was a mess. The margin was shriveled and virtually non-existent. The leaf was pursed (is that the draw-string syndome) and the plant didn't grow at all. I moved it into total shade, thinking that maybe it had burned. It's doing much better this year. It seems as if we are so late in developing the proper colors this year. The weather has been cloudy and cool. So many plants that have usually developed their summer colors by now are still gold instead of cream, or green instead of gold. Maybe by August...
