Garlic - Heavenly Package in my Mailbox

I received a heavenly scented package of Black Garlic and Black Garlic Butter in my mailbox today. And attached to it was a post it note from my mailman that said - "I don't know what's in the box but I hope my truck smells like this forever." I might have to share one of the huge garlic heads with him. I have shared winter squash with him in the past. He is from Thailand and does all the cooking at his house. I can't wait to open the jar of black garlic butter. Yum!

I had just returned from the Aldi's that is 2 blocks away. They have a huge supply and the complete selection of the porcelain clad cookware. I got the grill pan. I might have to make something that will go with the garlic butter. Something fattening. My job has been so stressful and I have lost way too much weight. But I guess entering the holiday season underweight isn't such a bad thing!

There was a young couple looking at the cookware. I passed along the info CFer's had shared about the quality of the cookware and that prompted them to purchase several pieces.

Thanks Dcarch! Spike the cat pulled the box out of the recycle. I knew cats liked garlic - but he is laying on it upside down looking like he is in heaven! LOL

Good for you Teresa!!!! Spike knows a good thing when he smells it! LOL

You've got a real nice mailman. I remember when I bought some worms (for composting) through the mail. The stupid post office sealed plastic all around, and they smothered. The package stunk and he couldn't wait to hand it over to me!

Oops sorry, got carried away, guess you didn't want to read that in a food forum didja?

I received an identical package late this afternoon!

It was too late to get a good picture today but will post one in the morning.

I've already opened the black garlic butter (I'm assuming it's like peanut butter & contains no actual butter...just blended black garlic.) It's wonderful! After tasting I've got a recipe idea but it will have to wait a week, or so. It's a special meal & we've got an anniversary this week but DH is traveling. When he returns we'll make black garlic the star of our celebration dinner.

I also wish to continue work on my mailbox garden. Amber yours sounds heavenly and I would love to see pics. I am glad that yoru new roomate is understanding about it being your space but offering good valid advice. I am going to place an arbor trellis over the mailbox and plant either climbing roses or vines. I am now deciding if I wish to do a dry cacti garden with small cactus or whether I am going to plant herbs and perennials. I am still in the planning stage other than the arbor is going to happen. Most everybody in my neighborhood grows confederate jasime on their arbors or they grow gardenias at the mailbox. I want to be different. Please, please post pictures. Linda

Jude, I just till the plot well and stick the cloves into the ground however far they go in. I just push them in with my index finger, so maybe an inch. I think none of them were probably the same, LOL. I planted mine the end of October, right around Halloween, September is way too early here. So, I plant in late October or early November and harvest in July. Other than that I don't do anything else except keep the weeds down and water it regularly if we don't get rain (like this year). My garden gets a good dose of cow manure every year, but other than that I don't fertilize it either. The red garlic is about the diameter of a quarter, I was disappointed. The "Music", though, grew like gangbusters, I'll definitely keep some and plant it this fall. Oh, and don't forget to trim the scapes, or you'll get small bulbs... Annie

triciae - the butter jar is actually black garlic, EVOO and Balsamic vinegar. I just got an email from Dcarch informing me so.

I can't wait! And FOAS - I am TINGLING! Tee-hee-hee!

LOL Teresa, with dcarch's package in your mailbox I'm sure you are! Interested to hear what you and Tricia do with the black garlic. I never got around to anything beyond eating it solo; wonder if the remainder is still edible after all these months.

Being as I've barely made a dent in the jar I bought many months ago, you can safely assume it's not high on my priority list at this point.

I just took a look, the jar has a 12/31 expiration date. They recommend eating it within one month of opening the jar, but I tried some and it looks and tastes just as I remember so I'm thinking it's fine. It really does have an interesting taste, and I've got a couple ideas on how I may try to use it. We'll see!

Thanks Rusty! And it was 5 POUNDS of worms!! The stench.....oh heaven forbid that's a smell one doesn't forget.

I wonder what the sorting room smelled like.Serves them right.

I got new ones sent, and she clearly marked the container as live worms! Do not cover air holes! They arrived safe and sound.

And I got package number three. It smells much better than the dirty old garlic bulbs I sent...thank you, dcarch!

I would love to find out how you guys use the stuff. I eat them like candies.

FOAS, according to some suppliers, the garlic does not need to be refrigerated and is good for a year. The garlic "butter" should be in the fridge, because it has EVOO.
