Here's a dorm building at Yale. I had the room with the open windows (for a reunion two years ago):

See? What did I tell you? It didn't take me long at all to post #2: an old octagonal schoolhouse. Pretty strong contrast with the school I posted above, though both buildings are made of stone.

It's in northeast Pennsylvania. Very old, obviously, and hasn't been used in a very long time. I'm glad to see it's being taken care of.

Interestingly (or perhaps oddly), the house where Patty Hearst was kept hidden away back in the 1970s is just down a little dirt road from this building.

In the summer, this gazebo is covered with vines making a nice shady spot in the garden. But in the spring when this picture was taken you can see the bones of the structure.

I like your gazebo.......this may be building overload.

Solstice, what kind of vine(s) do you use? I'll bet that's a lovely spot to sit.

Crunchpa, is that my hometown (NYC), or am I imagining things? I'm thinking I'm even looking at the apartment house where I used to live.......the New York Hilton......the Flatiron Building........but some pieces are missing. I'm probably in the wrong city. :-)

I have the perfect juxtaposition for NYC... literally an old abandoned "little house on the prairie" (some will remember it from about a month ago).

Montezuma's Castle near Lake Montezuma, AZ.....not too far from Sedona.

I love old buildings, esp. with windmills as accents. I bet that old barn (shed?) holds a lot of memories.

About the gazebo: I wish it were mine but it isn't. It's in the demonstration veggie garden at Longwood Gardens in Pennsylvania. I'm not positive but I believe they grow morning glory vines on it - they would easily cover it in a season.

All the pix of abandoned buildings tug at the heart. I wonder how much longer they'll last. It's moving to look at that "little house on the prairie," for instance, and know it was someone's home.

Alisande, I know what you mean about abandoned buildings. It seems like such a waste to let them go. When I lived in New Mexico I'd explore ghost towns. There were many up in the mountains. Often associated with a mine that petered out. Here's a pic of what is left of Lake Valley. The name is as appropriate as Greenland!
