Emptying Memory Card

I knew I could get help at this forum from so many of you who are knowledgeable about cameras.

I have a Sony DS650. I don't know how to empty my memory card. I have downloaded pictures into my computer, but they don't delete from my camera. Now, the memory card is full and I don't know what to do.

Your help is appreciated.

Can you insert the card directly into your computer?

No, I don't think so. I didn't know you could do that with certain cameras. I hook up the UBS port and put the pictures on the computer that way.

Just reverse the process. Find the pictures on the server; select the ones you want; right-click; copy; paste to whatever other location you want. Just because they are on a server at work there should be nothing different about the process. As long as you can find them on the server, it should be easy.

ok I can answer some of them. so you have a gig in your pc as 2x512 so to go up another gig you would have to change to 2x1gig sticks unless you happen to have 4 slots with 2 still empty. you can do a 1 gig stick and a 512 stick but it is better to have them matched. Now to know what your pc can take I would run belarc advisor, it will tell you exactly how many slots you have how much it can take and what type of memory you need. I will give you the link for that. I always say the best thing to upgrade first is the RAM often times once you have upped the ram you will find a lot of things that were giving you problems work better and video can be one of those. That is no guarantee though. But it sure can not hurt anything. I usually get my Ram from newegg.com they have very good prices, I just paid $18 for a 1 gig stick for one of my pcs. I got Kingston. For the video cards I will let some one else that knows more about those answer you. But why did the one you got not work what was the problem? Here is a link that might be useful: free belarc

I also have a cannon about that age and it clearly states it will not take anything over a 2 GB SD card. That would definitely be my guess as to why you get that error. I agree the point of the memory card is to use it to temporarily store the pictures on the camera till you can off load them to your pc and burn them to cd or whatever medium you choose, take the card in and have them printed out or what ever. Once you do that you have all the space on the card available again. I never use the cable to transfer pictures and never use any software from the camera it is just not needed when you can so easily use the memory card in a memory card reader.

Is there a 'format' function or maybe a 'delete all' in camera? I usually use the format after I make sure the pics downloaded to computer ok.

Hit menu button (the one that says OK on it)
Arrow right for "mode menu"
Arrow down twice for "card"
Arrow right twice, & hit "OK" for option "all erase"
Camera will confirm, choose "yes"
Found this answer on the following web site.
Hope it helps. Mine has an option when downloading your pics to computer that allows you to delete the pics from the memory card.?? But I have a different camera so maybe its not the same for all cameras?

I format my card in my camera each time I use it. I always put my pictures on the computer right after I use it - then put the card back in my camera and reformat.

I was told to do it to prevent errors and data corruption.

Don't format the card in your computer - format it in your camera.
