Image by: wintersown This lovely annual wildflower has cheery daisy-like two toned flowers of gold with a mahogany eye. Seed collection is easy. The pods will develop at the base of the flower turning from mahogany to dull tan at maturity. Once they are dry simply strip them off the plants. Allow the pods to dry on an open plate for a few more days, then crumble the pods and the tiny seeds come out. The deep brown seeds are quite small, as narrow as steelwool splinters and about an 1/8" long. You may use a fine kitchen sieve to remove the largest pieces of chaff. Seeds are often traded with some chaff and sowing instructions should include to surface sow the packet contents. If desired the chaff may be separated by placing the filtered seeds with remaining chaff into a pan with deep sides...a round cake pan is a good choice. Take the pan outside when there is a light breeze and begin to swish the seeds around in the pan, puff softly onto the seeds and it will lift the chaff up into the air; the breeze will carry off the chaff. Do NOT bounce the seeds or puff hard as the seeds will leave the pan.

I guess my first question would be how close together are these planted? Pachy prefers at least partial shade while the coreopsis wants full sun. Doesn't seem like they would make good garden companions tp begin with. And if P. terminalis, because it is evergreen, it is quite likely to overgrow the coreopsis site in the off season while it is dormant and only present below ground. Just keep the bed well edged to keep the pachy from invading the lawn.

Looks beautiful. I have to dig through my plant labels and see if I'm growing the same. Mine looks similar and I think this is year three for it, so that might be good news for its longevity. I've killed a few other cultivars and of course that also had me a little wary of the newer forms. Last spring I divided it into five or six clumps and all did well. I would have had a great show right now but they were run over by a bulldozer and only about half survived, so... I guess it's only somewhat bulldozer-proof ;)

dig a hole next to it.. AND FIND OUT whether there is enough moisture.. change watering if too wet.. or too dry ... we need to know about soil moisture where the roots are.. not at the surface..ergo.. dig with a hand trowel or tablespoon ... where are you.. big city name ... whats the weather been like since planting ... for me.. in my MI.. this is a die to the ground perennial... and this time of year.. they get real ugly looking as they..wait for it.. die to the ground ... look into the base of the plant..and do you see what will grow next spring??? make sure that part is at soil level.. and not buried too deep ... call your installer.. and ask them what they think.. and let us know what they say ... ken
