I got an email, and a postcard, advertising this "combo". I would love the chicken, and the waffles for "dessert" -- but could not imagine having both, together!

I've seen chicken and waffles prepared on Food Network plus a restaurant downtown served them, but didn't stay open long.

That's a brilliant idea dcarch, and thank you for sharing it. I have a 3 quart ss pot that fits inside my 8 liter PC - it fits inside the handled stand that three smaller stacking Indian stainless steel PC inserts came in. I do occasionally use the smaller ones for rice steamed in the PC (mainly I use them for legumes) but we usually use our 10 cup rice cooker for rice. I agree that the PC cooked rice comes out perfectly. I have pressure steamed corned beef on a raised petal type of steamer plate but would not have thought of steaming meat in one of my solid inner pots. I love the idea of a small amount of concentrated stock made relatively quickly. Nancy, I'm sorry abut high jacking your thread and I will be coming back to see what you do with your odd sized pork pieces cut off the bone. My best suggestion for them, if you like chile, would be Ann T's Pork Chile Verde. I make it frequently and of course you can control the heat by the type of chiles you use. Thanks to everyone for the recipes. I look forward to trying many more of them. Doucanoe, I made your alfredo chicken pizza and it was wonderful. Rusty, I made your hot chicken salad and it was great! I didn't take pictures but I wanted to let everyone know that both recipes that I tried are keepers!! I am perplexed at the number of people who think a side of fried chicken is gross with a waffle. How is it different from ham and eggs and toast with jam or bacon and eggs with pancakes? What about linguisa, a pork chop or steak as a breakfast meat with eggs, waffles, pancakes or any other combo of breakfast items. What makes chicken so odd to some? Chicken pot pie. How could someone not know what that is? I don't know one person who wouldn't be familiar with it here in California unless they were a recent immigrant. I agree Liege waffles done right are awesome. I think Elmer does know I meant the horrid thick doughy things chain restaurants serve.

My mother grew up in Arkansas and we visited it every summer for a month. My grandmother was a true "southern cook" - lots of fried chicken, fried pork chops, milk gravy over homemade biscuits, fried okra (SO good!), cakes, pies, jams and jellies. And yes, she was fat and she died of congestive heart failure...at age 89, having lived alone in her house till her final visit to a hospital. Southern food is wonderful but it is fattening, although my grandmother and one uncle-by-marriage were the only fat ones in the family. Of course, my grandfather died of a heart attack at age 72, but he was thin as a rail, even eating his wife's cooking! Go figure. I haven't eaten fried pork chops with milk gravy in years, but OMG it IS good. About once a year, I fry chicken. I just don't eat it every Sunday the way I did growing up. I think the downfall of the south where weight is concerned is soda. Remember, Coca Cola started in Atlanta. Southerners LOVE their soda pop and drink it in huge quantities. Many are Baptists who don't drink and they like the "lift" they get from all that caffeine. Living in KY, I see a LOT of obesity and poor lifestyle choices. When I go to pulmonary rehab at a local hospital, if I go early, I see the healthcare workers arriving for work in the morning...a 32 oz soda in their hand. And yes, they are very heavy.

My younger son loves them in a restaurant in Los Angeles. I do have trouble imagining them--the fried chicken arrives sitting on top of the waffles. Roscoe's is famous for it, and some day I just may try them. He promises that at Roscoe's, they are delish.

I am NOW scheduled for a luncheon date with a friend, for Saturday, come rain or shine, to meet at IHOP for chicken and waffles.

Chicken and waffles is classic. We have a House of Chicken i and w Waffles in the East Bay. Open late too. (Yay)
This is the real deal.Used to be a Roscoe's franchise. Not that Belgian doughy stuff at IHOP and other chains. Check out the super menu below.

I'm a Roscoe's House of Chicken and Waffles fan too.

Never would have thought to have both on the same plate, but it's really good.

Thanks for telling us about the IHOP version -- I will definitely try it.

For those that haven't and probably won't have the privilage of having Roscoe's version is NEW for us.

New things when you have nothing to compare with are good when you enjoy them.

love chicken and waffles been eating them for years, depends kind of on the part of the country maybe, they seem to be very popular in specific areas. Nice that Ihop is getting them too there is one not far from me.

Sounds really yummy, but way to fattening for me. I love pancakes, waffles, french toast, and belgium waffles but won't eat them because I love to slab on the butter and use about a gallon of syrup. Then I am so weighted down I can't get up, lol.

Sorry you haven't had a chance to try them yet.

I guess I just figured that you would have chicken and waffles in a lot of places in Alabama since I always thought it was a Southern thing. Guess not. No soul food places where you live?

Sorry you missed the lunch you were looking forward to. I wouldn't mind trying it if the chicken was a sweet/sour blend but not sure if it was just fried.

I thought that commercial was cute! Never thought of chicken and waffles as being sexy, but that couple sure did. How cute!

I am having waffles and sausage for supper. Husband requested it for tonight. He had a craving for waffles. I don't have a belgian waffler, but the old sunbeam waffle maker I got when I got married in 1970. LOL

Yeah, I know it is not chicken and waffles, but our small town does not have an IHOP. It is about 45 miles away in a larger town. So we country folk have to do what you townies take for granted. LOL Glenda, I hope you finally got to enjoy those waffles and chicken...they sure did look delicious!!! Especially the ones with the cherry sauce on them. YUM YUM.

I watched The Next Greatest Restaurant the other evening, and one of the contestants had chicken and waffles as his entry.

If I remember correctly he was one of the top ten. If you watch it this week you can see.

Doesn't sound good to me.

Hmmmm, that's not what I expected to see. When I make ck. and waffles, it's usually a whole roasted chicken, shredded, and I use chicken gravy on the ck., waffles and mashed potatoes. Mmmm, yum, I could eat that now. Hope you get to try it soon Glenda.

Doesn't sound good to me. Fried chicken is salty-spicy. waffles are sweet. I just can't picture them together. Somebody convince me...

I think I would have to try it to see if I liked it, just the two together with out knowing how it tastes does not sound good to me.

oh every place I have ever had Chicken and Waffles it was batter fried chicken, and it is really good together, just a twist on chicken and biscuits. One of the contestants on the next restaurant show had chicken and waffles as his concept idea he is still hanging in there. Very popular and common in certain areas.
Used to eat some very good chicken and waffles at a place called Cooppie's in Plano, their specialties were chicken and pies hence coop pies.

I thought I already posted this. But it's gone so....

Many local chains around here are jumping on the bandwagon. Since it's not authentic soul food style chicken and waffles which would be bone in southern fried chicken and the thin American style waffles it is easy for any restaurant to do. Even if it's not on the menu one could just order a side of chicken strips with a a waffle, Bet even Jack In The Box will be doing something like it. They alt ready have chicken strips and a mini funnel cake on their menu.
