Hi Doris,

I think it's a Rose-breasted Grosbeak, male.

A woodpecker would have a longer, thinner, sharper beak.

I've been hoping to see one of those in Wisconsin, but haven't yet. The Grosbeak sings like a Robin.

Thanks for sharing the photo!

Nice picture. I have never seen one of those around here. I'm glad people are posting pictures again. They are all so good.

Hi Barb Some of your questions are outside my range of knowledge, however I can maybe help on some of them. With regards to planting this plant outside I think you could but I am not sure about overwintering it (someone will know though). If you intend keeping the plant in a pot on a sunny porch I would suggest that you put the plant container inside another container and fill the gap with gravel, this will allow you to water the gravel and help keep the roots cool. You will need 2 fairly big pots to do this as your plant will put on a lot of growth. The plant will respond better if you can give it some form of shade during the hottest part of the day. Sorry that I can't be of much help but the link below might be worthwhile looking at. Tight.... Here is a link that might be useful: fuchsia x hybrida

vermi-composting and worms: questions, questions, questions
Q

Hi, welcome to worm farming. I've been doing it for about a year now. Questions are good, and lead to learning more. Hope we can help out. 1. They like it best at 70, but thats not to say you can't keep them in a place that is hotter or colder. I have a bin outside, were it is 100+ during the summer and as low as 0 during the winter, and it is very active. 2. Thats a big bin. How many worms do you have? I would worry about how much air they get if you have the doors on. You would want it covered, but the fridge is made to hold air in, so if you keep the lid on, give it plenty of holes for fresh air flow. 3. Grass clippings are fine, but they can heat up. I would use in moderation. I will bag mine up every now and then, and use in my regular compost pile. Leaves, newspaper, veggie scraps make up most of my worms food and bedding. 4. As stated with the grass clippings, they heat up, so your worms could be escaping the heat. when things cool off they may find their way back. Don't let any mistakes now make you think twice about what you are trying to do. This is a great thing to do, you'll make mistakes and learn from them. Once you get it down, it is easy. You just have to learn what works best for you.

Oven cabinet questions, questions

I do believe you, and I do believe her, but I don't understand the cutout number. How can 23.5 fit in a 23.375 space? The cabinets I'm buying say the box is built with a 5/8" thickness...this could be thicker than 1/2" in something like a Kraftmaid cabinet. I would so like to reconcile the calculation! Lovely thought on the drawers. I actually did have drawers first there, but changed the rollouts thinking that they gave just a bit more vertical space with no horizontal framing having to cross the space. But I agree it's less effort to open a drawer. Regardless, I like the look of the 26" oven depth to break up the line, so will likely switch to drawers and deepen.

Another MUA - make up air challenge question(s)......

MUA should really be provided mechanically, not through “drafty” walls, crawl spaces or attics. The hood you are purchasing should provide you with the volume of MUA that is required to run the system efficiently, assuming it is correctly sized with your gas range. Your log stove should have its own MUA system, but if you are relying on the hood system, it needs to be sized to accommodate both the log stove AND your gas range. The International Building Code for Residential Construction should provide all of the details you need (in the mechanical code) for this system - even if your local jurisdiction or contractors are not familiar with it.

Yep, yep, yep--Rose breasted grosbeak! We have spotted one yesterday, but not at feeders-that would be awesome though! So cool you get them there...What do you put out to get them to come in?
Since dh has been off work for a few days, we have been bird watching around our place alot...chat-grosbeak-swallows-meadow lark-blue birds-tanagers...Downy and Red Bellied woodpecker frequent the suet cakes....We have a robin nesting on our back porch-near door-4 eggs...We use that door more now that it's getting warmer, for the most part try to avoid because of her and eggs but walking from the front to back and with all the traffic we have here not able to do so. I for one, since our dryer is on blink, I'm hanging clothes out till we get time to fix...then of course we have those annoying house sparrows...they are non natives and are quite aggressive...

Thanks everyone. Cannot recall seeing one before. I bought a big bag of bird seed at Wal-Mart and have been getting all kinds of birds.Even those I don't like. Crows and blackbirds. They're too agressive. I have been getting a baltimore oriole at the hummingbird feeder. I have a hard time getting pictures of anything I don't have a very good camera.

Here they show up the same time as the hummingbirds. So far, I've only seen one, or at least one at a time. They love our sunflower seeds.

Haven't seen this one since I took the picture until today. He brought a friend with him but the friend was scared of the big crows that were here so flew away but I saw a little tiny wren put it's little beak on the big beak. That was so cute.
