Petunias do no pollinate with themselves meaning you need at least two of the same plants if you want to get a petunia true to the original. Therefore every petunia seed will always be a cross from at least one other plant. Other plants such as tomatoes, squash, and others can use pollen from the same plant or flower to create seeds. That's why some of the commenters seeds came out different than the original :) Even with two plants you are not guarenteed to get seeds that will come out true, as you do not know where the pollen that pollinated the flower came from, and sometimes there are other genes that will come out in the new plant that didn't show in the parents. But you can hand pollinate yourself to ensure you get something like the original! In the middle of the petunia flower there is a green part that looks like an oval with a split in the middle called the stigma. Around that will be stalks with the pollen and are called stamen. Grab a pollen stalk carefully with a pair of tweezers and then rub it on the green oval on another plant. You should see little white specs stick to the green oval. Sometimes the pollen stalks won't be matrue yet, so make sure to use one that looks like it has little fluffy grains all over it. I usually carefully cut the petals away first so the pollen stalks can be easily grabbed with a pair of tweezers. You'll know if you hand pollination was successful if in a few days the flower dies to reveal a swollen seed pod. If you use a pollen stalk from the same type of petunia, you will get the same petunia from the seeds. Cross it with a petunia of a differnt color/type and the seeds will be a cross between the two! So when you see a petunia at the store you like, make sure to grab at least two if you want to make seeds to grow your own! Great way to make your own petunia hybrids or ensure you get the same plant. Petunias can also be cross pollinated with calibrachoas as they are closely related. Some stores even sell petunia/calibrachoa hybrids. After you pollinate you can tie a bag or satchel around the flower to ensure no pollen from a different plant gets in the flower, although this isn't really necessary. Now that you've learned to collect the seeds, try hand pollinating yourself sometime to make your seed collecting more predictable or to try and make your own hybrids!

'But I like your idea of doing it on the side piece first and then fitting it into your cabinet.' I'm glad you think that'll work! I'll have to make a template for that - and it'll take a larger piece of wood (x2) than if I didn't do it that way. I figure whatever it takes to make it easier tho. I think putting 3 or 4 rails on a board before inserting the board and screwing the whole board into the cabinet wall will be much easier. I just hope I can find a board the correct thickness needed and align those glides up on the boards correctly. I'll just have to take my time and remind myself that it isn't something I have to 'finish doing' within an hour or 2! 'If I lived near you, I would totally help you. A few decades ago I wouldn't have thought twice about trying to do something like this. My body just isn't as limber as it used to be. I plan to go over and wipe out (I've already vac'd, pulled out old contact paper and wiped cabinet innards down once) the innards of a few cabinets and put down new shelf paper. If I don't post here (this board) within a few days, you might call the 'old body police' 'cause I'm probably still stuck part way inside of a cabinet - and can't get out or in case of the bottom cabinet, can't get back up! lol!

Before I moved out of my parents home I hand wrote all my favorite recipes from "home" into a three ring binder recipe book. As life went on I taped recipes from newspapers/magazines in this book. At a wedding shower I received a 'photo album' with 5x7 cards with gifted recipes. Most of the scotch tape has now given way. Most of those recipes were never even tried. When I started printing off the Internet I collected the all in a plastic folder with two pockets. It's a pain to dig through. These days I don't print I just cut and paste into a file on my lap top which sits in my kitchen. As found recipes pile up I can organize them easily into files. I too have a memory of a recipe my mother used. Chicken and probably tomato soup based. In those days mom cooked mostly by opening cans so no doubt the rice we ate it with was minute white rice. Something I have never purchased. I have searched the Campbell soup companies web site for it but have yet to come up with something close. :(
