I have an Odjob and I originally found it more trouble than it was worth. I recently fell back and re-grouped as I didn't appreciate being outsmarted by the thing, and figured out that if I make up the tufa mixture dry and then put it in the Odjob that it works just fine. If I dump the ingregients in it separately, then the ingredients just don't mix and there are lots of blue words flying around the workshop. I make sure not to overload it with water (for all the obvious downfalls of that), preferring to have my tufa a little on the dry side and then dump it into a mortar trough and finish it up by hand which is pretty easy as it is almost done anyway. I find that I get a better consistent quality from batch to batch using it this way. I can make up a batch in under 5 minutes. Like any of the tools, it does have to be rinsed off well after each use. For large batches, I use my regular cement mixer which isn't exactly a day at the beach either...try keeping that thing clean in the winter!!

They do look like a nice set-up. Too bad they are so expensive and only do 24 plants. Sounds like you good a really good deal on so many of them. ;) Dave

I just 'inherited' four of those seed starting trays last summer, so I'm giving them a try this spring too. They have been used many times and look to be in good shape, so I'm thinking they'll last me awhile. I am missing one capillary mat though - I can order a new one, but I'll rig up a temporary one with something else for now. I've seen these kits for sale, and thought about it, but the price was too high for me :-) I'm waaaaay behind on my seed starting though. Half of the stuff I needed was buried under four feet of snow and I hadn't been able to get to it. It'd be weeks before it melts enough to free my trays up, so I had to shovel them out this weekend. Today I plan to get started. I still need to go shovel some more stuff out, but my back is too pooped, and I'm not sure where I'll put the snow - it's already shoulder high in the areas I can toss it, and I'm not short!! I did start my peppers earlier at least, and they're sitting in makeshift pots until I can get my proper ones sorted out. BP

Thanks for the input. I spent another hour or so on the wwhardware.com site. I do like those deep drawer organizers on their site - no way to put cross dividers in, but I think that's ok for those big drawers. I think the Lee Valley will work for a tupperware deep drawer, but for the pyrex casserole dishes, I should use the Tru-Sta dividers. Thanks!
