Ken, I won't import them. I wouldn't plant Cuban mint outside a pot even if I love Mojitos. But I appreciate seeing them this morning time of year. I will probably seek them out next time I take the same walk. The purple deadnettle was a bold splash of color in an otherwise earthtoned forest floor. The stinging nettle actually stung me when I reached down and plucked a leaf. And the fuzzy rosette will grow to be one of the most odd and impressive wild flowers--if I put that in my garden it would put all the tame and delicate flowers to shame. But are you saying that I should import the fourth?

Wow...what a neat place Wendy! And how fun to have a "girl's get together". I bet that was a lot of fun! Are the pink flowers shooting stars? That *is* a tall pasque flowers. Are you sure you can't grow pasque flowers? The red one is always a challenge here, weak growing and no multiplying, but the purple one multiplies here like crazy. I don't know what the soil is like in MA, but soils tend to be pretty heavy here in Illinois...I think you need to give it a try! :-) P.S. That fern is cool...I love ferns! Thanks for sharing this with us! Ei

fragaria,I was very impress with the beautiful photos of your woodlands, especially the photos of the paths leading out into the forest. The sense they gave of having wilderness access right in the backyard, was very evocative. What beautiful place to live. And those shots fragaria posted of the north carolina woods with the mountains in the distance made me catch my breath.I enjoyed comparing the two ecosystems and though it would be a great idea for everyone to post images of thier locale so that we might all compare and contrast the difference enviroments.TO answer your question, that was a picture of my front yard, the small pile of split posts in the center is a future tomatoe patch(I'm running out of sunny spots in the back).

"Indian Pipes rise like a company of wraiths in the dim forest that suits them well...how weirdly beautiful and decorative they are!" - Neltje Blanchan (1917) Indian Pipe (or Corpse Plant) was the first subject of a blog I'm keeping.
