Noobs - I'm thinking of going the same direction as you. However prices are much higher than when you said "I can get 21mm for about $3 and less for 1x6." Where did you find that 21mm Ipe and 1x6 Ipe? Thanks in advance,

Here's a shot of our floor and a link to our finished kitchen to give you a few more views of our large format tile. Eventhough our kitchen is small, the tiles are 24"x24". We love the large format tile. Fewer grout lines. Go Big. Here is a link that might be useful: Large Format Tile Kitchen Slideshow

Standards for dimensional lumber have changed over the years, always, of course, becoming smaller. When your house was built the larger dimensions you have were standard. Today another quarter inch has been shaved off all soft wood dimensional lumber.

Believe me, it could be a lot worse. In the mid 1960s, 2x4s measured 1 5/8 by 3 5/8 for a few years. Remodeling, especially after 2x4s became 1.5 by 3.5, often became a nightmare of shimming and head-scratching. To answer your question, lumber dimensions are smaller than stated for two reasons. One, it's just easier to use round numbers - 2x4, 2x6, 2x8, etc - than 1.5x3.5, 1.5x5.5, 1.5x7.25, etc (catch that? 2x4s and 2x6s shrunk in width by 1/2 inch, everything larger shrunk 3/4 inch, so 2x8s are 1.5x7.25, 2x10s are 1.5x9.25, 2x12s are 1.5x11.25). Two, lumber is now sized for performance. To put it another way, a 2x4 - actual two inch by four inch - is wasteful. 1.5x3.5 does just as good for the job intended.

Oh, no......we actually had a horse named Xubi, but none of her photos have been digitized. Oh, well, in that case I'll have to say.....

Love all your pictures!

Thank you Rcnaylor!
She played a waitress, serving Hugh Jackman a drink in a bar, [she had to learn a little Japanese] and exchanged a few words, I never went to see the movie, apparently in the north American version my daughter is not in,....[they took another girl of more Japanese looks] she plays is in the European version.
