The makeup gene. I can't stand the stuff- takes up too much room and way to much time to figure out how to use.

Trish

The cooking gene: Oh i can cook the basic and did cook for a lot of years while our kids were growing up,and still do some. But i HATE it.I just recently in the last 6 mos turned it over to DH who finally took an interest after watching all those cooking shows. He was also hooked on qvc and kept buying cooking supplies. So i told him one day if you think that's gonna make me get interested in cooking, think again, cause it ain't gonna happen!!!!!!

So i told him since he was so interested,he could take over the cooking and i turned the kitchen over to him.He ran with it and now does most of the cooking, and the shopping.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Alleuia.He does very well to,he tries new recipes all the time.

I always told my sisters i got the craft gene and they all got the cooking one.
Kathi

Oops ... I missed that one too Trish. Not one speck of makeup here either.

the athletic gene (I was always picked last in P.E.!!)

I'm missing the same one as Yaya.

Shopping, cleaning, and Patience!!

Shopping, make up, biting my tongue gene

YaYa that's funny. Me too. I was just telling my DD the other day that I was always picked last in PE. She isn't overly athletic either. lol

I missed out on the makeup gene too. Also missed out on the PE gene as was always picked last..lol

The math and the PE gene.

The "keep a secret" gene. I just can't do it. It is probably connected to the keep your mouth shut and biting your tongue gene. I am dysfunctional in all areas.

All the above, plus the 'No Artistic' gene.
Leslie

The legs gene. My mom had great legs and still does at 82. Daddy had nice legs for a man. Ever since my daughter was 2 years old, I have wished I had her legs LOL. She has mom's legs.

The singing gene....My dad had a beautiful singing voice, plus one of his sisters. My son is a professional singer...but it skipped my generation alltogether.

The passion for garage sales gene is missing from me. I am sure there are some great things to be found at garage sales, but I have no desire to pick through other peoples discards. Unfortunately, I didn't get a crafty gene either. That is one I wish I hadn't missed out on.

All of the above except the artist gene...I did get that one and love it.
One I wish I had was the "computer gene"...my brother got that one!

My Dad always said I'm missing the card sense gene. But I do have the ice cream gene. I can live with it.

I have absolutely no physical grace whatsoever. I have often said it is like being the only ogre in a room full of princesses.

I have recently decided that I AM TOO a princess. It just happens to be Princess Fiona ;)

I missed out on the decorating gene. Really, I have no clue what I like. I want pictures for my walls but am afraid to hang anything because I might not like it and then I would be left with a hole in the wall. The only good decorating decision I have ever made was the paint colour for my kitchen and the red vintage pyrex on top of the cupboards and not wanting a white floor.

From my parents, the gene I am missing out on is the thick hair and dark eyes. Everyone in my family had dark thick curly hair, I have crappy thin flat hair. I did get my Dad's Mom's Chase family big derriere - the Chase bottom as my Dad called it. LOL I didn't want that gene. LOL

I missed out on having the nice ankles gene. I have my Mom's cankles.

I also don't have the "fix it" gene. I have no clue how to fix something if it breaks down with the exception of office machines.

I don't have the "get it done gene" I am a terrible procrastinator - it runs in the family. LOL

Anne

I guess I missed the Musical Gene that all my family seems to have.

Gayle

I missed the skinny gene.

Linda

The decorating gene, too.
I was always chosen the team captain so it was always up to me to have to pick the last person. I hated that!

Well, I'm probably the only one on this forum but...

I missed the mommy gene.

My mom had eight children and 18 grandchildren, and a slew of great-grandchildren too. I'm the only female in my family without children. One of my sisters has six kids!

The sports gene but then DH got mine & he has double! :-)

The neat/orderly/organized gene. I don't know anyone in my family who lacks it to the degree I do.

I always thought I had the good legs gene, but I was wrong. They looked good until about five years ago, when they totally went to pot. I didn't expect a change for the worse because my dad had good legs for 90 years, and I thought I was built like him. But, as my daughter pointed out, my dad wasn't a woman.

I guess the home decor gene. I have absolutely no clue (or interest in getting a clue) about decorating, maintaining, arranging the house. I have friends who are always planning something for their home, the cabinets, the paint, sofa covers, whatever. I could fall asleep listening to them. I can't do it, and I can't make myself care.

Do these genes make me look fat?

{{!gwi}}

sorry, I couldn't resist

I missed out on the math, PE and the relax gene. I tend to be a big worry wart, unlike my DH, and kids who all have a 'we'll cross that bridge when we come to it' attitude. I wish so much I could turn off my brain from worrying about things before I need to!

Sports gene - I can watch but not play and the creative gene. That's the one I miss the most!

I have no sense of direction. I get lost even in my own town.

I missed the musical gene. Dad has it, most of the kids have it. They all play various instruments; I have a hard time playing the radio!

Ron

Another one here with no sense of direction -- I guess that would be the navigation gene.

Also missed the arithmetic gene (don't ask me what 8x7 is, please).

7X8 is 56. Don't ask me what 8X7 is. Hazards of memorization at a very young age. I missed the "give a sh**" gene..just don't care about what gets a lot of the people I know all agitated. Politics, for example, and what other people think.

Oh this could go on and on-
I'm missing the following genes - if you care to donate some to me I'll happily accept.

I'm short on decorating skills, penmanship, make up and hair styling, growing nice fingernails, anything competitive, fashion, creativity and worst of all a desire to exercise.

All of the above!
Clare

Gayle, me too! I missed out on the musical gene, even though my father has a nice voice and my sister is a professional singer. I also don't have the dancing gene, and yet my sister dances flawlessly.

I also missed out on the athletic gene. I hate sports and am awful at all of them.

Sheryl

Can't curl my tongue. And, it is genetic. Out of the 7 of our family, my Dad and I were the only ones who couldn't. But we could sing the best. :)
Jan

The sewing gene. Also sports gene, unless you count dumpster
diving as a sport, which I do.

I have not one skinny gene in me! Also, my sister does all my decorating for me (she's the skinny one!).

LOL!

The naturally, always smiling gene. I have the most light-hearted thoughts in my head most of the day. But, I look like I'm at a funeral. I was told that it's genetic due to facial muscles. I can smile in an instant, but don't have that open, friendly look. :-( me :-) others

Leslie/KS

While skimming through everybody else's answers, I saw several genes that I don't have ... but most of them, I don't miss.

I can't sing on tune, but love to sing ... so I do it anyway.

I can't visualize how to "pull a room together" decorating-wise, so I paint and buy curtains and that's about it.

And the physical gene? Nahhhhhh ... doing physical stuff makes you hot and sweaty and I'd just as soon bypass that.

The gene that I don't have, and really wish I did, is the nurturing gene. I tend to just be oblivious to the needs of loved ones & friends. I'll do just about anything for someone, but ya gotta TELL ME you want it done. Otherwise I just don't realize that you need it.

1) Patience, I have none.

2) Dancing and rhythm, though I enjoy it, I have trouble moving body parts naturally so it looks good. Every song is the same dance with me. Okay, so you're probably remembering the Seinfeld episode with Elaine dancing -- no, I'm not that bad. My mother and father both danced well.

3) Ditto to what Frazoo wrote about the "smile" gene.
