probably too much oil in it. i know other small animals cannot have cedar around them. like hamsters or rodents because of the oils and dust is bad for their respiratory system. I would think it would just be best to stear clear of it and use pine or fir even red wood would be better that cedar i would think. Here is a link that might be useful: TheItalian Garden

yes, it is very possible. In fact alot of people do just that. Your bees may die out but in a good swarm year a swarm will move back in and replenish the hive. The problem that you will have in your area is africanized bees, which wave invaded Florida. You will need to become some what of a beekeeper to handle them and make sure that you don't create a safe haven for dangerous bees.

If it's cold enough, they aren't going to fly far when you knock the soffitts out...but they may fly far enough to sting you! I guess you could hit them with multiple shots of 'wasp and hornet' spray over a period of days and eventually get the hive weak enough that it won't survive the winter. Good luck.

Nice pics Eric!
It seems with bumbles,... toward the end of the season when there life comes to a end, allot of them will die right in the flowers, especially when cool, also over night...perhaps it is there way of dieing.
But for this one it's not time yet! I'm not too sure there live span, for honey bees it's about 7 weeks.
