Covered dish that will knock their socks off!

This dish sounds good. I went to the store to buy the ingredients but could not find #10 can of pineapple, food service size. Can you tell me about how many cups of pineapple that is?

I've had several cats that are sock retrievers, but none who would drown the socks. Very inconvenient I agree. DH says our bed is not a bed, but an ark. Two humans, three cats and one dog. Its not always conducive to sleeping well for the humans although the fur balls seem to do okay. Do you cats look for the softest place in the house. If there is a throw pillow on the sofa, Baxter, will knock it over and then paw the throw off the back of the sofa onto the pillow and lay on top of the whole heap - sofa, pillow throw. Must be comfortable you know.

I didn't say I *hated* the Heritage - just wouldn't have been what I would have picked as my everyday set if we had registered, or if we'd even had any money when we got married and I had to replace my set of 16 (4 plc settings) Corelle. Since then, we still haven't had the money to spend on replacing perfectly good (OK, a few chipped but I got rid of cracked ones) dishes. The serving pieces are a bonus and do come in handy, though I wouldn't use them with anything else except another heavy looking set. So when the plates go, the serving pieces go. I don't have to have matching serving pieces, but if I get Filigree "everyday" dishes, I would like some large serving bowls (preferably covered) and a platter that are similarly delicate since I don't have good china, these would have to serve as my "having people over for dinner" set too. And I hate the idea of going out and spending $25 for a non-matching platter at TJ Maxx when I can get the Filigree one for $20 or so anyway. If I got nice white (Filigree) serving pieces, I would probably use those instead of buying matching china serving pieces when I did get around to buying china. I already mix in some silverplate at the holidays when I use the Heritage. I would love to find some V&B - my sister got some as her "everyday" dishes from MIL. Of course, her "good" dishes are Wedgewood. There are also some Lenox patterns of china I like, though my favorite (would be too afraid to use it) would be antique flow blue. I have only used the tureen once since I bought it (for the plate that came with it!) at Goodwill a year ago, but the covered dishes (casseroles?) and the platter get used whenever there are more than the 4 of us - the platter even with just the 4 of us if I make a big roast or a whole chicken.

Thanks. My fatal mistake was not turning off the AC...so there's a barely noticeable layer...everywhere. I got most of it up...just need to mop and remop a few times. Thanks. OH...do you have tips for getting drywall plaster out of the "margins" alont the side corners and ceiling? Most pieces are down, but I can't seem to chisel the stuff out well.

I think a header would best describe it. Right now, according the the plan, it goes through half of the fridge, but it would be easy to move the fridge to the right a foot and problem solved. Having a kitchen flanked by an arch is actually in several of my inspiration pictures so this isn't an obstacle at all. Wow, planning a kitchen is just so full of ups and downs. It's like being on a roller coaster. I worked up a rough monitary estimate and it made me sad. Ug. Probably workable, but maybe on a different timeframe. Maybe not - the aim was October cabinet install. So hard to pay out SO much money! Then I also looked to see if they made a double oven, electric, slide in range, and they do, but it has horrible ratings and is $2300 and is the only one on the market (Electrolux). I was planning on spending $1200 on the range. Appliances are the one area I am NOT going expensive in. I have known nothing other than $300 ranges, $400 dishwashers, and $1500 fridges basically my whole life and have been perfectly happy with them. I learned to cook on them and can cook a good meal in them, and if I have to go with expensive appliances that will be what pushes this reno into absolutely not going to happen. So, now I am looking at a double wall oven and a cooktop because it looks like I might be able to swing both of them for about the same as a slide in range. Plus I am the queen of bargain hunting. When I get my heart set on something, I search relentlessly till I find ideally 30% or more off :-). I don't even know if there is room for a double oven, and then I assume there is more cabinet costs.....ah, the ups and downs continue....

I know!!! My pineapple casserole!
Five regular 20 oz cans of pineapple will do....or 6..it's not critical. But the food service size is much more economical....and I have never seen any of that go to waste!

Linda, I'm intrigued. Went and found your recipe - and of course I have a couple other questions...is it chunks of pineapple or crushed?

And is this a side dish or a dessert?

AHA! I found it!

One # 10 can of pineapple, food service size
Drain saving the juice
mix 2/4 cup of the juice with 1/2 cup white sugar and 1/2 cup brown sugar and2/3 cup of flour.
Pour over pineapple in an 8 1/2 by 11 pyrex dish and mix well...mix in 3 cups shredded sharp chedder cheese.
Top with cornflake crumbs and drizzle 2/3 cup melted butter over the top.
Bake 40 minutes at 375 or until browned and bubbly.

This is recipe I have been using for 20 years.
Always double!

Baked Pineapple Casserole

1 (20-ounce) can pineapple chunks in juice
1/2 cup sugar
3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
1/2 cup butter or margarine, melted
1 stack Ritz crackers, crushed
Drain pineapple, save 3 tablespoon of juice.
Combine sugar and flour; add cheese, pineapple and pineapple juice. Mix well. Put in greased 8 x 8-inch baking dish.
Mix crushed crackers and melted butter together; sprinkle over pineapple mixture.
Bake for 30 minutes at 350*F bubbly.
Serves 6

THAT IS NOT a stack of crushed crackers, but 1/2 cup crushed crackers mixed with 1/4 cup melted butter

CORRECTED RECIPE

1/2 cup crushed ritz crackers

Mix crushed crackers and melted butter together; sprinkle over pineapple mixture.
Bake for 30 minutes at 350*F (175*F)
Serves 6
