I can so understand your indecision. I went through the VERY same thing. DH really liked the grain in the cherry, I really liked the shaker style so we went with Quince. But the stain, we had stain samples all over the house. We looked at them in daylight, at night, at an angle to the window, next to granites and flooring samples. I started out wanting the wheat color, but was told that the lighter stains can change more than the darker ones. We actually ordered cherry in the chestnut finish, but several days after the order I looked at a neighbors kitchen and changed my mind to the pecan with sienna glaze (I think it's called). They are gorgeous and look wonderful in the kitchen. We did have to send 2 back because they were out of square, but they should be replaced in about 6 to 10 days. Take your time. Your granite choice will go with any of them.

I need help with the granite choice. I am keeping my tile floors, terracotta with a mexican style 4x4 accent piece with a hint of green, blue and a little yellow in the accent piece (will try to attach a picture). We chose Medallion cherry pecan (a shade darker than natural cherry stain). We have some black and wrought iron accents throughout the kitchen and adjoining family room. I went to the granite yard this weekend and fell in love with typhoon bordeaux but was told by the granite yard salesperson that the granite color and my existing floors were "fighting each other" and that I needed a dark granite to make a statement. The salesperson suggested "absolute black" for the granite and I almost cried. I am finally re-doing the kitchen after 18 years of being in this house and hating my counter and cabinets from day one. I've dreamt of vainy, marbley granite counter tops forever and now my dreams are crushed. I looked at "Peacock green" (a darker color with hints of terracotta). It's a pretty consistent stone and looks pretty boring to me but once again I've been advised this will "look" best. Help me please. I have to keep the floors. They extend into the dining room and it's too expensive to change. I have stainless appliances, the terracotta floor with an accent (looks kind of southwesternish, mexican), I chose cherry cabinets and now don't know what to do about the counter tops. I'll take any advise from anyone who is a designer, expert or has a great eye for design. I don't have a clue!!!

thanks breezygirl & ironcook! i'm very excited, and so glad my kd gave me a little "nudge" to go with the cherry pecan. i was so nervous going with a darker wood and my dream was to do white. it compliments my oak floors so well and that was my HUGE worry. mskitchen, we got the brookhill style. will you be posting pics when you are done? trailgirl, yes!!! please post pics, i'm DYING to see your kitchen! here is our granite, persa avorio which only one person on GW (missmuffett) has. now i'm getting nervous how it'll look with the cabinets lol curious how you did your crown moulding? we ordered the stacked 5" inch with a decorative piece (believe it's dentil?) in the middle. wondering if i should also install the moulding in the adjoining breakfast nook and above window too, having tough decision on this and don't want it to look too heavy!

Just lost internet and my message - Grrr I really struggled with this as well. I didn't want to replace the floor, so sanded and coated- no stain. It is oak but not solid oak(I think it would bring called an oak laminate- probably has 8-18 years of life left) Everything looked like we were trying to match but failed. The floor has a lot of variation in it. If I started from scratch- I would have more contrast similar to badgergal.
