I STILL think he's a hunk!

hello, everyone: This weekend we're off to buy 2 van-loads of straw from the Southern States. The first load we're taking to a city lot where we have cleaned up a 130 foot terraced fence line between a back garden and a big parking lot which sits higher up on the hill and rains down debris of every kind. Gross, I mean old batteries, and beer bottles from the 1970s. You get the picture. First we repaired the old wire fence, cut branches and vines, threw away bags and bags of refuse. Tomorrow we deliver the straw and buy the tarps and plastic and stuff needed for seeding large areas. This is a variation on the WS technique which I am going to try for forming meadows. Next weekend we'll roll out 130 feet of bamboo fencing and finish off the edges with cardboard and straw. All this to keep the parking lot screened off behind the bank of ivy and oak, and also to stop the vines from eating the terraces. Someone mentioned wood betony as a good shade plant. I also love mysterious looking plants like cyclamen, creeping plants, moss and ferns. We plan to plant those right through the cardboard. We're WSing columbine in blue and yellow, along with other flowers that are all in the purple-violet family. This will all be set off with a chartreuse color like creeping jenny. We would LOVE to have more thoughts from you on shade plants that would work in a city garden. After we bring the straw to the city, we have to turn around and bring another van load to a mountain property that is choking in vines and thorns, and has very little sod covering its gravel-y face. On the mountain, we are layering cardboard, straw, landscape mix, meadow seeds, WS flowers, and more straw ... all topped off with plastic sheets until March 15th. We sent away for Fleur de Lawn for the base of the meadow and WS some perennials to add to key areas. We probably wont have full bloom-age this year, but with what I've learned on this site we have a pretty good chance of having gettng rid of the bad stuff!

Below is a link to an older thread on chalk paint. I did the white dresser in Annie Sloan's Old White, 2 coats, then a coat of MinWax paste wax. I let it cure a few days then have been using it daily. No distressing. Right now, I'm working on my own "big ugly", a 70's style dresser that I found for $40 on craigslist. It was so ugly that I was ready to pass but Mr. Red had driven the truck across town and he said it was super sturdy. We want it for a TV media console. I painted it with a mix of Paris Gray, Louis Blue, and Duck Egg. I have a full quart of the Gray but just a little sample of the Louis Blue. I waxed with the minwax, then, distressed a bit, then, waxed with the Annie Sloan Dark Wax. I'm loving the way it's turning out and will post pix when done. And to think, I almost gave up on it! I find the chalk paint amazingly simple to use. You can literally take a blah piece that you've cleaned, (I just use a rag with warm water and a little dish soap and wipe stuff down!) and start painting on your color. It dries fast so you can do coat #2 in about an hour. Then, a rubbed on coat of clear wax....Minwax, Johnson's paste wax, hannity's wax, or whatever. Done. Or you can layer colors, sand a little to distress, add some dark wax for interest, and have something else entirely. I have a supplier here in town. I've paid about $35 for a quart and still have more than half a quart left after doing the white dresser. The sample jars are about $11.00, but they go a long way too. I like his personality, so he does have a hunk quality, sorta. Seen him on the Regis/Kelly show a few times. I wish Regis would retire and AC would co host!

Me too Glenda, not sure about hunk but he is cute. LOL

I still love my Phil from Amazing Race. Don't know what it is about him but he needs to come to Canada and take me away to all of these far off places he has been too. I never can get enough of him. LOLOL

Yes, I agree too that he is cuter rather than a "hunk." I sure would love to see that baby picture from Harpers Bazaar, also photos from when he was younger, modeling, etc.

I think he did a great job from Haiti.

My SIL is a dead ringer for Anderson Cooper. Same eyes, same exact hair and everywhere we go, people come up to him. We were in NYC last summer and you'd be surprised at the nudges and stares he got. Their smiles are slightly different but a dead serious face and they are identical, like twins. Same physique as well. ..And I LOVE Phil too.He's adorable.

I love Anderson Cooper's soft voice.
In fact, my specialist looks and sounds a lot like him, so I get a vicarious thrill when I go to the doc. LOL.

No, it's my son in law. He's one year older than Anderson and you cannot tell them apart. Funny thing, in pictures of Anderson as a child the resemblance was not there as much. When DD and he go to St Bart's or St John's where Anderson is known to hang out, there are always people coming up. Around here I guess they think it can't be him shopping at Wegman's..

AC reminds me of a fair-haired Keanu Reeves. Neither are my type, though good looking, but I think AC is better looking than Keanu. Now, Sean Connery, count me in. He gets better looking with age....swoon.

I really like AC...I think he's cute, and I love his personality. He also is awesome at his job...you can tell he loves what he does.
As for Sean Connery, I can't stand him!! LOL!!! It's his voice that drives me nuts. Not the accent, but the way he speaks. I can't explain it.

mrsmarv - Have you seen Keanu Reeves in Something's Gotta Give? OMG, so loveable!! Sean Connery seems to be more gorgeous the older he gets :-)

I saw Richard Chamberlain on a street corner when I worked in Beverly Hills in 1989. At nearly 50, I knew better than to approach him and tell him that I could make him change!!

My love was Richard Chamberlain. The Thorn Birds was the only TV series I have watched more than once. That beach scene.WOW!!!..Back in the Dr Kildare days, it wasn't known he was gay.
