Comments (2)There is no "size rule", but there are good principles for both proportion and for illumination. Some folks like "decorative" light fixtures, sometimes called chandeliers. Some folks, like me, don't like light fixture which call attention to themselves and attempt to dominate a space. Pendants can be large, complex and visually strong...or they can be small, simple and unobtrusive. Pendants can be clear and transparent, or they can be metallic and opaque. Thus, it's virtually impossible for anyone here to give you a definitive answer to your question, especially without seeing your house, the interior space and furnishings. If you are having trouble figuring out all of this, why don't you pay a designer for an hour's time and help you select pendants which will be workable and in good taste for the style of architecture of your house?...See MoreWhat size pendant lights for kitchen island?
Comments (8)Ideally, you will want the space between each pendant to be the same as the width or diameter of each fixture. For example, if you have 18 inch pendants, the space between each fixture should be 18 inches. This rule of thumb remains true, even if the pendants are hung at staggering heights. To determine the appropriate size of your kitchen island pendants, follow the steps below: Measure the length and width of your table, kitchen island, counter, bar, or desk in feet. Subtract 12 inches (or 1 foot) from each of these measurements to ensure there is 6 inches of clearance on all sides of the fixture. Take the remaining measurements in feet and add them together. This number is the approximate width allowable of each pendant. To determine the allowable number of pendants over your desired surface, take the length of your table and minus 12 inches and then divide by any number under the maximum allowable width (as determined in the previous step) and divide by two. This number is the approximate number of pendants that you could hang over your kitchen island, dining room table, or counter-height bar. So I'm getting 18 inches is a good size. But my math may be off...See Morependant lighting size for kitchen island
Comments (6)Agree with Joy. You need fixtures that are 14-16” wide. Frosted glass or open lanterns work well in most settings. Clear glass is hard to keep looking clean in kitchens. It would help to see more of your kitchen. Here are some that might appeal....See Moreboxerpups
