Pendant light size over the kitchen island
Comments (3)I have a similar question... our island is only 5 feet and we are planning to have 2 pendants. What size do you recommend and how low do they usually hang?...See Morewhat size pendant lights for 7.5 x 4.5 kitchen island
Comments (2)It all depends on how many pendants you want to have. for a 90" island you probably want 3-5 pendants. An odd number of pendants over an island works best. Let's say in your case the island is 90" and you want to have 3 pendants- 10" diameter each. Combined all diameter will be 30"... 90"-30"=60" 3 pendants+1 =4 (number of spaces in between the lights and ends of the island. Now take 60/4=15" that will give you the distance between each light. This is just an example: Layout How it will look in reality. You can go with 3-12" pendants and reduce space in between, or put smaller pendants over the overhang area if you have it and add a few recessed lights over the main area, or you can put 2 larger pendants but that would be more like mini chandeliers, over the entire area. There is a few ways this can be done depends on the look you want to have. Good luck...See MorePendant lighting size for kitchen island
Comments (16)Thank you, but I don't consider it a poor design. It's what I wanted and what will fit in the space allowed. What you all don't realize is that it is an L shaped in-law apartment above a garage in my daughter's house. I have no need for a stove, I don't cook much. Portable devices are fine for me and if I want to do anythinig else I can just run downstairs to my daughter's kitchen. I would only put 2 seats there anyway, and if that's not comfortable, I only NEED one for ME. And yes, that is not the question. I just want to know if the lights I picked are too big. I've seen plenty of pictures on this website with large pendants over small spaces. So, general concensus.. yes 3 lights will look fine or no they are too big... simple, no? And the 3 holes/connections have all ready been put in the ceiling for the lights. It's a plaster ceiling so I will be sticking with 3 lights. I'll just pick something out that is smaller in width & length....See MoreKitchen Island Pendant Lighting - # and size?
Comments (1)Your island is long so I'd suggest 3 pendants about 18-20" in diameter. Lots of people on the board suggest blowing a balloon to the size you want and hanging from the ceiling to see what you think of the size....See MoreMarsha Paitsel
