After the blizzard

Hi All,

I'm somewhat of a newbie here at this forum.

I've lurked here now & then, admiring all your beautiful photography. Before I try something huge, like a sunrise, I thought I'd start small.

After yesterday's blizzard, this Doneytail Spurge came through unscathed.

Nice photo, Jule! That spurge must really be hardy. Let's see some of those sunrises(and sunsets) from chilly Wisconsin.

Linda, Actually, you can grow C&S outside, but they would be the cold-hardy-for-you type. Many c/h C&S would benefit from the blanket of snow - it's an insulator. There are lots of Sedums and Sempervivums which would do well for you, and I'd think some Opuntias and perhaps Escobarias, too. And some of that stuff fell on us, but nothing like the quantities which you have.

That is truly beautiful. And so tranquil. The dining area looks inviting with it's frosty tablecolth. I'm afraid I would have to take my juice and muffin out there despite the cold. We had snow the last two days, too. I just love the way it transforms the landscape. And the smell of the earth and plants is heavenly, isn't it? I went for a hike up to the top of our property and could hardly make myself come back inside. Every season brings beauty. Enjoy your winter wonderland and your knitting! Diana

Yeah, when we get it up here, we get it. The good news is most of our snows don't stay around as long as they do up North. Even the big ones are usually gone in3 or 4 days. Definitely could be worse!

I just came back to view more pictures you talented people post, and I realized I mis-spelled the name of my picture. It's supposed to be Donkeytail Spurge. I was so busy trying to get the picture posted right, didn't check my spelling.

Boy, it sure takes a LONG time to get to this forum.
But once I get here, it's worth it, just to browse through the great photos. It's going to take a lot of practice to measure up to all the talent here.

This is why I also love this site, all ordinary people, no high pressure, just practice your camera a little, this is how one gets motivated and gets better as time goes on.
