Tornado!

One of the Georgia tornados touched down a bout a mile and a half from us the other night and we have been without power till this morning. A tree in our back yard toppled but that was the extent of our damage- other people were not so lucky. I don't ever want to be that close to one again. That was scary. I didn't even hear the siren, which is a little over a quarter of a mile away, till it was all over.

Lucky you! Tree and some power off is a near miss. I feel so bad for the folks that have been victomized by these horrible storms lately. We have no storms of that magnatude here in eastern Massachusetts. I once was taken back by a story a traveler pipe fitter told me. A tornado came through and leveled he and his wives chicken business in SC. The trama was so great it later resulted in divorce. From this I know even though the storm has left, The aftermath can be devastating. Keep safe!

A friend near Anniston, AL had a large old tree fall on the main electric lines. Earlier on the NWS site there was a tornado alert for a tornado at Selma so expect lots of damage. In some areas pets are now being allowed into the public storm shelters after so many people died or had to be rescued because they would not leave their pets so people who might use a public shelter should check before the normal storm season. When I used the sleep tracker on my IPhone it blocked notifications unless they were designated to be allowed. I stopped using it because I did not receive a telephone call.

Kendrah…What a great idea about using a board to gauge the sunlight and how it will change the interior shade. I was thinking of trying to get helpers to hold out a tarp to do the same thing but one single board would also do that. Great idea. And thank you for your kind words. I’m thankful that we weren’t hurt. There was no warning and we were IN IT before we had time to get to our basement. Thankfully, it was ”only” trees and not a home lost, but it is a hard blow to see our finished property and mature trees GONE in an instant. It looks VERY ugly herer right now and a little over a week ago, everythingi was finished and beautiful. Like a bad haircut, ”It will grow back,” right?

When I saw the news reports this AM of damage in KY, I thought of you. So glad the tornado missed you! The storms throughout the day that approached my house were nothing like feared - some lightening/thunder but not much, and only one really heavy downpour. The bulk of the storm front passed to the south of Columbus. I more often heard more distant thunder, and when there was a tornado warning about 35-40 miles due east of me, I could see the lightning flashes from my FR window. The storms with tornados a week ago were stronger and the tornado warnings closer..

It’s actually an Airbnb property- I did live at one point- and at some point down the road I may return and do a large renovation project on it, but in the meantime, it will likely be a rental home or Airbnb for the next decade. A big cost saver in upkeep would be to minimize landscaping, but still would love to have some nice greenery. I would like the house to look appropriate for the design and not do too much or hopefully any exterior construction work, but I would like to see it modernized in someways as much as possible for the design of the home itself. One went over here on June 21 last year. It took the top out of the tree in my back yard uprooted a lot of trees in the neighborhood and blew the top of the tree across the road onto their house. But minimal damage was done to the house. I didn't know it was a tornado until a fireman said he saw it. I do know I was scared of that wind.
