I'm a volunteer at the National Park here on San Juan Island.

Company "D", 9th Infantry

I'm on the right. Brother Roger on the Left.

Yes it's a perennial. The humming birds love these. It is loaded with blooms this year. I also have a pink thats more like a regular foxglove but its also perennial.

My brother and I are volunteers for the national parks. Several times a year a group of guys and gals play the years 1859 thru 1872. Those years, the the Royal Marines and the US 9th Infantry Company D occupied the San Juan Islands. Look up the "Pig War". Most soldiers playing the Royal Marines are Canadian. In August is the big weekend we call Encampment. (See link below) Friday night until Sunday night, we stay in character as it were 1860. The first photo above was taken with a 19th century camera. Second photo, digital, 4th July parade
So to answer your question, yes reenactment.

I think that that is wonderful volunteering for the National Parks and doing the reenactments. I'm thinking about doing that for my local state park...They have something similiar where you step back in time, 'Pre-1840 Mountain Men Rendezvous'...when trappers, tradesmen and settlers will rendezvouse' after a long cold winter to trade and show their wares...I haven't actually seen this event but since Ive picked up photograghy been to this park alot and just love it and want to show some kind of appreciation for having it around...will be going to that event....

Konrad, Yes, a pig was killed. The pig kept getting into the farmer's potato patch. He finaly got tired of it and shot the pig. The rest is history.
