Need a nap in the daytime can certainly be a symptom of a sleep disorder. It can also be a "symptom" of old age and less activity. I don't know anyone my age who doesn't say that they often fall asleep at night during the regular Primetime TV shows. Some do have sleep apnea and use a CPAP machine, but they still doze off. Others take naps due to health issues that cause fatigue. My late mother had Lupus and had always turned up her nose a her sister who took a daily nap; she found she herself truly had to do so. Some people find a short nap is an energizer, the "executive power nap". There are as many reasons as there are people. Yes, if one sleeps well during the night and feels exhausted the next morning, a sleep study done by a specialist is in order. If one falls asleep early and then wakes up and has insomnia for hours, this should be checked. If one regularly has a drink or two before dinner or wine/beer with a meal and falls asleep afterwards, blame the alcohol and cut back or cut it out altogether. My late FIL had two rum and tonics for decades, each night before dinner. When he reached his mid-80's, he had no trouble going to sleep (and actually went up pretty early) but would awaken in the night and lie awake for hours. His doctor told him to cut back to ONE rum & tonic before bedtime, but he was a stubborn old cuz and said he'd done the same thing for 60 years and was not changing. Oh well... A bit of "sleeping over a good book" or dozing off while watching TV is usually nothing morbid that requires any treatment.

Seems like it is struggling to survive. I planted a 3-foot Jelena last fall and got great flowers and full leaf out this spring. This was my second attempt with Jelena. The first one was tiny. I planted it in spring, it seemed to be doing well, then it just croaked in the summer. If your plant is pushing out leaves, there's still hope. Good luck.

Feathers, I often have a cup of tea or something as an afternoon pick me up. I like to take my mornings slow, eat around 11:00 and then really hit it between 12:00 and 4:00. Denali, that makes perfect sense about inactivity. I have taken on several home projects during the pandemic, and although I rarely "go" anywhere, it keeps me active. But I am so ready for spring!! Oakley, yes, I know what not paying attention means. It just surprises me you can focus on the computer, etc. Heck, I don't have ADHD, but it doesn't take alot to get me sidetracked from one project to another!!

I used to spend my work weeks being sleepy and with inadequate time to sleep. I always looked forward to weekends when I could nap. Over twenty years ago, I went (at my wife's suggestion) to the sleep clinic at the local medical school and went through their tests and exams. Turned out, I had obstructive sleep apnea, immediately treatable (as if switching on a light) with a CPAP machine. I've slept soundly ever since, I can get restful sleep in fewer hours, I wake up feeling good and alert and remain alert all day. I haven't taken a nap since. There's a quote in that linked CNN article from a doctor at Johns Hopkins, who said "make sure sleepiness isn't due to a treatable nighttime sleep disorder." Sleep disorders affect a shockingly high number of people, most of whom are undiagnosed. Poor sleep causes far more medical problems than just sleepiness (including elevated risks of heart disease and strokes, among others) and can usually be treated a number of different ways. For those who need to nap regularly, consider going to a sleep doctor to see if you have a condition that can be treated.
