I agree, sounds like wilt. Oh it brakes the heart. i had a beautiful Niobe with huge buds and as soon as they started to open--WILT! I was on vacation and my boyfriend at the time thought he killed it. I still guilt him about it. But it was a sad day. And mine didn't come back the next year. I hope yours does.

Thanks buyorsell for letting me know the tag is correct and it's a type II. Gayle, sorry to hear your having all the heat and we're getting all the rain this year. We have had more than usual with very little sun so I'm sure that's why my plant looks like this. Thanks for your comment. I have a Princess Diana clematis, Roselee. So far, the stems have died down to the ground each winter, then reemerged in early spring and had one spring bloom period. It's just making buds now.

Pictures show it with 7. However first or early season efforts of large-flowered hybrid clematis plants can be underdeveloped. For instance double-flowered kinds can be seen producing single flowers. Otherwise yours is just another variety with striped flowers, besides 'Nelly Moser'.
