Just want to say thanks for that idea! We currently use pallets for our compost bin but I have other compost piles that are not contained and like your idea of using logs. Living in a forest we have lots of those and I think it would look better than pallets. I'm in a different zone so don't know whether what you've done will work. I've had bad results with trying to winter any plants in pots no matter how well insulated so no longer do this.

Wow, qute a lot more responses here. Thank you so much. Judy. I think the fence measures approx 7' due to the fact that it mainly sits on a raised bed. That fence is not too long and because it was dividing two areas of the garden, we needed it to be quite decorative. But our main deer fence, you cannot see. This goes through all the evergreen trees and is approx 7 or 8 feet also. Sorry I cannot remember the size, but I have included a link below. We had it installed about four years ago and I have to say, it changed my life. We are right on a deer path with population getting larger and larger. By the time we installed the fence, our rose devistation was heart breaking, despite all my egg spraying every five days. I was ready to give up. It got so bad that many roses actually died because of the constant chewing and general weekening. So with the deer fence, we moved surviving roses to the back, and are developing this now, and adding more and more and hopefully MORE roses. :) Anyhow, deer are now welcome in the front and all the rest of the garden. They live here. But our front yard, is not as nice any more. They are eating many things they never ate before, including geraniums. So we have to rethink the whole thing and come up with a different kind of garden. I have substituted dahlias for the geraniums and I do not like them nearly as much. But I have to come up with something that works, because I will not chase the deer away anymore, we love them now, heehee! I am introducing a lot more peonies which are lovely. I'm glad there is such a variety of semps and that they're so beautiful - since in my climate I'm pretty much limited (succulent-wise) to semps and a few sedums. Super happy this late-planted clump multiplied so profusely before blooming. I'm completely enamoured, and am determined to collect as many varieties as possible :-P I may even *gasp* order online! Lol

This post highlights a little problem. It costs Ten English pounds to register an orchid name which is a lot of money for some in countries where the exchange rate is unfavourable. So we get many beautiful orchids grown for the florist trade with no or unregistered names. Doesn't matter all that much, if you took your orchid to an orchid society meeting, it would be judged. The only restriction is that you would not be able to get a quality award from The American Orchid Society. If I was typing up the results, I just look up the RHS Site. I never get names from google. Searching the RHS Database for Phalaenopsis Anthura gives two results, but not Anthura Manhattan below is the result for Anthura Manchester Anthura Manchester Synonym Flag This is not a synonym Registrant Name J.& M.Lattimore Originator Name Anthura Date of registration 01/10/2010 Pollen And Seed parent Unknown So Anthura might be the name of the nursery or the owner of the nursery where your orchid was bred. Added via edit. There are at least 27316 registered Hybrid Phalaenopsis Hybrid names! What is the point of having this enormous register? Find correct names from faded or broken tags where part of the name is visible. You might like to do some orchid breeding, you can check if the orchids you are thinking have been used before and whether or not the results were promising.
