I went back today and added another photo. That yellow flower is on a plant nearby that looks a lot like the one with fuzz, but now I am sure it is a different species. So now it seems to be an Asclepias. It looks like sandhill milkweed, Asclepias humistrata, as saltcedar suggested. Below is a link. Here is a link that might be useful: Asclepias humistrata

I think you're right! But I also didn't think either one should be blooming now/still - it's been a very strange year plant wise - also, these California poppies don't look anything like the packages of California poppies I've been buying as seeds....hmmm is there more than one kind of California poppy? the other more similiar to other poppy varieties in leaf structure, seedhead, and blooms?
