Beaver Creek State Park-bridge Repairs...then needs more...

Haven't been able to get out much this winter...so all I have is my yard and around...but today my daughter from Pittsburgh came down and took me here...the bridge was to be under repairs for 4 months...but there was a little drawback...and I didn't get a 2nd battery for my d300 so only got a few of these...Actually the time onthis was few weeks ago and had a pretty good rain...

Very nice! The same style bridges can be found around here.

What is the round 'thing' at each end of the bridge, just above where you enter/exit the bridge, a sign?

Looks like they have cables holding the bridge in place.

The round things are markers(?) that tell about the bridge...and they had to bring in a crane to lift that end up where the tree hit near the foundation!

Yes, we have some truly beautiful and unique gardens in the Midwest. One need only look for them, and they can be found in nearly every major and some not so big cities. The "coasts" should know that the Midwest is more than just a "fly over zone" when it comes to beautiful gardens! I will add the Jingu family had a tea and snack room in the structure where the restaurant is now located. This is in part how they made a living. I have always been confused about San Antonio Sunken Gardens being originally, and now again being called Japanese Garden. From all I know the style is strongly Chinese and in no way Japanese. The Jingu family was supposedly from Japan, but the style is Chinese. The Japanese Garden In Golden Gate Park, San Francisco is one of my favorites. The Japanese family that created that garden was also evicted in WWII. They had a large house/structure in the garden and owned some of the more valuable plants. They rented the house for events. When evicted they took apart the house ( built without nails Japanese style) and moved it to a lot they owned and sold the plants. Some justice was served. A wealthy patron bought the plants and moved them to her estate, but gifted them back to the gardens in her will.

Sorry I haven't uploaded photos; going to try to do it in the next few days. Have had so many doctor appointments between myself & my daughter; weekends have been spent cleaning the house because I'm hardly home during the week. From Trailrunner We are in awful place for tonight. Allen's sick. Motel near Union Conn. oh well . I'm stopping in Bar Harbor & going home miss my sweetie TOO much!!! Arkansas- The Natural State. The name means "south wind". Our beautiful lakes and rivers are a main draw for people. This state is very rich in minerals and has the only open-to-the-public diamond mine in the world. Lots of forest land and we grow rice better than any other state, along with other crops. I live near Eureka Springs, which is a tourist town also referred to as "a little Switzerland". It was attractive to people starting in the late 1800s because of the healing properties of all the springs. Ozarka water was first bottled here. Arkansas is home to Wal-Mart, too. We moved here from FL to get away from crowds and hot, hot weather. Now we have 4 seasons and no neighbors and the closest real traffic light is about 22 miles away, in a town that has just about everything we'll ever need. :)

The floor rails are no longer supported by the superstructure, but by the stautions (in the stream). As you said, this bridge is under repair and hopefully someday, the floor will be tied again to the superstructure.

This style of bridge construction is old. I'm betting this bridge is over 100 years old. Several bridges of this style with I-Bar tension members have failed in Ohio, thus are being phased out or refurbished.

The main box members of the superstructure are made of flat plates and channel iron hot riveted together. This is the hallmark of this type of bridge, and is not seen in today's bridges. Also, if you examine the truss structure, there should be adjustable tension members with turn-buckles in the center of the tension rods. In the days when this style of construction was popular, there was a professional occupation called a "bridge tuner". After the bridge was roguhed in, it was his job to adjust the tension members so that each part of the bridge was carrying equalized loads. He 'tuned' the bridge much as one would tune a piano. By adjsuting the tension members, then striking them to make them ring, he could compare one memeber to another for tension. The frequency of ringing was a function of the amount of tension in the rods.

After the bridge had seen some use and settled a bit, he would return to touch up the "tune" of the bridge.
