Vacuum Cleaner Recommendations

Some time ago I read a thread on this site regarding Shark Vacuums; however, I have been unable to find it with the current search function. Since I now need a new vac, I would like to know which one you prefer. I am not bothered with pet hair since my dog is a non-shedding yorkie/schnauzer; he does bring in plenty of leaves, pine needles and trash onto my carpeted floors.

I just recently bought a Shark (professional Lift-off Rotater) from QVC. I had a Kirby from the 1970s that was just too heavy for me and a Hoover upright that was from 1987 and didn't suck much any more. I have had it a couple of weeks now and I really like it. The carpet looks cleaner than it did after using my old sweepers and it is easy to push; also very easy to empty the dirt cup.

I have the Champagne. I used to have a White Star, which was also fine. I upgraded because I have severe asthma, and the filtration is better on the Champagne. It also has Direct Connect -- which means I can just take the floor tool off and replace it with a dusting tool or whatever I need - much easier to handle.

I would have to ask you if you have enough respiratory problems, that it affects your health. There really is not enough particles coming out. If any,it is from displaced air, from movement of the brushroll. There is no other fan pulling the air. When you are using the wand, make sure that the head of the upright is not "digging" into the carpet. Sometimes this happens, when you pull the hose in front of the upright. The front will tip forward; digging into the carpet. Also, remove the bottom brushroll plate and brushroll, then clean out the brushroll chamber periodically. You should be doing this at least every time you change the belt(if belt must be replaced). If you have a more permanent belt, you should just set up a schedule to do a maintenance check. Be sure to check the airway from the brushroll chamber to where the wand connect to the machine. Sometimes dirt can get stuck. If it is a big concern for you, you then can purchase an upright vacuum cleaner where the brushroll shuts off or shuts off in the upright position. If you do not want to spend the money, then just stuff one facial tissue down where the wand connects to the vacuum. Do not stuff it so far down where you cannot get it.

I have a dyson. It was a special model offered to employees of Best Buy when our son worked there. He lived at home so we got his discount. I'd been wanting one and was thrilled to get it. That was four years ago and I still love it. I've always loved to vacuum, but then my Mom always had commercial grade vacuums and gave one of her old ones to me when I moved out. When it finally gave out instead of having it rebuilt (which my Mom had done once) we decided to try something smaller and went through a couple brands that were highly rated by Consumer Reports. Never again. That's when we bought our dyson. We have hardwood, ceramic, marble, granite, wall to wall carpet and area rugs. I use my dyson on all of them and our upholstered furniture. I even dust with it because of allergies. Ithas a very long hose that allows me to do our stairs without dragging the upright up the stairs. It also has an attachement for doing hard floors like a canister vac, but I prefer to unengage the brush and use it that way. I highly recommend the dyson if you have pets because dog and cat hair isn't a challenge to this baby. If you want a vacuum that really sucks, get a dyson. You won't regret it.

I have the Hoover Windtunnel Anniversary Edition (53670 named in Consumer Reports), which is the canister model. I purchased mine last year on the recommendation of the gentleman who owns a local sew and vac store. It was a new model, having just recently come on the market, and he compared it to the Simplicity canister vacuum that cost almost $200 more. I've had it for a little over a year and love it. I have mostly hard surface flooring and that's the reason I have always had canister vacuums. It's been a great vacuum and I haven't had any problems with it. We have 2 indoor cats and had our sweet dog, Tootie (she passed in March), who used to shed like no tomorrow LOL. I can't believe how much hair came from such a small dog ;o)

There's been a few threads started about vacuum cleaners.
I bought the Shark navigator lift away pro about 2years ago I guess and still think that it's the best vacuum available. Shark has come out with a few new models which are probably about the same.
My cleaning lady has used about every kind of vacuum cleaner made and she tells me every time she comes how much she loves my vacuum. She is saving money to buy one just like it for herself.
You can find it at bed bath and beyond and use their 20% coupon, Walmart also has a good price on them but the ones at Walmart have slightly different contents in the box. I got mine at Walmart. It comes with a separate attachment for smooth floors too. We are extremely happy with it and would definitely buy it again and I have highly recommended it to several people. Many of them here and many bought it too.

I was just going to say that I recently bought a Shark Navigator also. It was cheap and really works well. I got mine from Amazon

I have both the Shark Lift Away and the Shark Rocket.. the Rocket is the one that has a smaller cup, you have to hang it up or lean it against something, it's not free standing. I like them both, didn't need the second vacuum, just wanted it..Since I got them from Bed Bath & Beyond, with a coupon for 20% off, and I can return them if I don't like them, I am willing to buy items there.

I wanted to tell you that on Wednesday I ordered my Shark Navigator Pro from Wal-Mart.com. I was surprised when it was delivered on Friday by UPS. When I put it together and vacuumed my floors, I was flabbergasted to see how much stuff it pulled out of my carpet. I am certainly glad that you couldn't see! If you need a vacuum, this is it! Thank you all again for the recommendations--they were right on.
