Easter --- Since you did not indicate adding any peat moss to the mix, this really is a modified concrete mix rather than a Hypertufa mix and should be quite strong if cured properly. However, the mesh will not transfer any of the load and plenty of reber will still be necessary to support even a short span. Concrete is extremely strong in compression but very weak in torsion (bending movement), which is precisely the kind of load you will be applying. Even more critical if the ramp is supported solely at the ends. The wood base will only supply minimal support and load transfer for a very short while, as it will decompose fairly rapidly allowing the span to fail, possibly under it's own weight. Also, if you do decide to add rebar, it must be near the center of the thickness of concrete. I have seen a number of folks who placed it at the bottom of a concrete form only to have their projects collapse. Placing it on bottom or top of a pouring form also keeps it from properly distributing the load. There are spacers available specifically for this purpose available through most large hardware chains or cement & concrete vendors.

Thanks, everyone. I did the zigzag, so now some of the roses are on 7 foot spacing, but none closer than that. The arc is wider and stubbier, not quite the graceful curve I had envisioned, but in time it will grow and I won't even remember what I had in planned originally. I'm planning to re-work the Terrace Garden later in April to make space for Le Vesuve, with fewer natives and more roses. With the new bed of native shrubs outside the fence I no longer feel the need to grow them in the garden itself. I'll keep the ones I like best, and remove the ones that quickly took on a scruffy look. Anyway, I'm done planting for now. Maybe I'll have a sewing week. I have several projects in mind, one to finish and others to start. This was to be a sewing year, but somehow the garden keeps calling my name. It's very distracting! Rosefolly

Thanks everybody! You as daylily people would understand. I went to clean the mess, and found out two fans of Linda's Magic are still in the ground, yay! Though bent, and of course all buds are gone from both. I put the broken fans in the water, one time I did this with a fan of something that was hit by a lawnmower and it grew tiny little white roots! I am actually very sorry for the tree. It was topped, they didn't have a saw big enough to completely cut it. We are thinking of somehow decorating it, maybe make it into a bird feeder holder or something. It is just standing there, remains of the big trunk, sad to see. But we have way more sun now, but afternoon sun so we need to move hostas somewhere. Not sure if I could plant daylilies there, there's another big (walnut) tree that provides shade all morning. About deer. Sure looks like deer, but I'm 99% sure it isn't. We are in the middle of a city, surrounded by chain-link fence, and neighbors yards from all sides, and a road in the front. There is no parks or woody areas for deer to live around our neighborhood. I've never seen one. Polymerous, I read your thread, good that your daylily (Victorian Lace?) is alright! Maybe it's raccoons, I know they are here. It is just that we have tons of squirrels, that's why I think it's them. The only question is - where are the buds? Oh and by one of the daylilies there was a weed, they buried either a walnut or an acorn. I thought about digging it out and forgot. It was gone, and they left a small hole. That's why I think it's squirrels too. I don't know what woodchuck is, I'll look it up. Or could it be.. crows?

Just leave it as it is. After all, when a wood fire burns up logs, the logs collapse, right? When it get to the point that you don't like the affect or appearance, it's time for a new log set.
