Yup... I use milk and juice jugs and make sure I have a minimum of 3 inches of soil. I also group them together in a clear plastic bag so their collective weight keeps them anchored. Snow actually helps too. If I have a decent snow drift, I just push it all down into the drift a bit. It's funny that when the snow melts, they just kinda settle down along with with it, rarely tumbling over (perhaps because the contents of the jug are still frozen?) Linda

The vast majority ignore me (especially the *&%&%^$ing deer) and the titmice, chickadees and wrens come flocking to see if I have mealies. The robins and catbirds follow me when I garden to see what I turn up, too. I'll confess that I generally speak softly to all the birds when I'm in the yard, and most seem to have acclimated very easily to my presence. Your yard sounds like a nice place to be a critter. :)

Oh Judy, What a tease you are....I can't wait to see it. Hope you are doing better too. Nanci

When I was a kid, my aunt made a batch of cookies for the parish priest. Later, he told her how much he loved those "delicious lemon cookies. " "Lemon? " my aunt thought. There wasn't any lemon in the recipe. She went home and dug out the card to double check. No lemon. Then she went through all the ingredients she had used, trying to figure out where the flavor had come from. The wrong extract? Nope, that wasn't it. Had something gone sour? No. Finally, the only thing left was the oil, which this particular recipe used instead of butter or shortening. She went under the cupboard to get the bottle. Apparently, she had never felt comfortable handling big jugs of oil, which were glass back then, so she usually transferred some to a plastic squeeze bottle, typically an empty dishwashing detergent container. This time, there were two squeeze bottles in the cabinet. One said, "Lemon Joy." She never told the priest. But we always wondered what is next bathroom visit was like.
