Hi may_flowers, I barely manage with my 24" sink. I put in the new faucet a year or two ago when my old one died, and at the same time I put in a new, stainless steel, drop-in sink to replace the original 1956 porcelain / cast iron one, plus a new garbage disposal. But I didn't replace any cabinets, so I couldn't put in a larger sink. I'm looking forward to putting a big Blanco Supersingle sink in my new house. :-) In hindsight, I should have done more. At the time I wasn't sure if I was going to remodel the house or sell it, so I just wanted something to tide me over. But now I may have to do a cheapo kitchen remodel to make it easier to sell this place once the new one is finished. Right now it mostly has the original 1956 kitchen, including an oven that looks like it came from the set of "Back to the Future". The rest of the old house is great, though. Laura

I am a single-bowl fan, so out of the two options I'd only choose the single-bowl. But frankly, I didn't particularly like that Artisan single-bowl. Like the other poster said, I too prefer a drain toward the back. The biggest advantage to a single-bowl sink is that you can set large pans down in it. It sorta defeats that advantage if you have to cover the drain to set the pan down. Also, I don't like the ultra-curved corners on that Artisan. They really cut in on the usable space of that sink. Having said that, I am also not a fan of the sharp corners of a "zero radius" sink. I myself am leaning toward the Blanco Super Single 513-644. It's very rectangular, so it uses its space very efficiently, yet it's not zero radius, as the corners are slighly softened. However, it's 18 gauge, not 16, but I'm not sure that matters much. Re the double-bowl Eclipse - I agree with Buehl that neither bowl in that Eclipse looks large enough. They both seem to be exaggerated D-shapes which will cut on capacity. I think if you search there are other double bowl sinks for a 34" base that will have a more efficient use of space. Although I just said I am leaning toward the Blanco Super Single, I will add that I have recently become interested by the Blanco Silgranite Super Single. I've just learned about it on this Forum. Every time it's mentioned here, it's mentioned with a lot of enthusiasm. Do a search for "silgranite" and you'll see what I mean. Since I have always thought the stainless steel water spotting issue to be a PITA, I may go for the Blanco Diamond Silgranite Super Single instead (I like the way-cool Anthracite color, but it comes in other colors too). For an under-mount sink, the real depth of the sink is the sink's stated depth + the thickness of your countertop. So, if you have 3cm stone (or 2cm stone + subtop = approx 3cm), then your sink will be 10" + 1.25" = 11.25". Grids raise the "bottom" of the sink by 1" to 1.25". So, figure 10.25" depth for the sink, just to be conservative. Is this too deep? It depends on several things: (1) Your height (the taller you are, the more likely a deep sink will bother you b/c you have to reach farther down than shorter people) (2) Your arm length (the longer your arms, the farther you can reach down w/o having lean or hunch over) (3) Current condition of your back & shoulders...if you already have occasional problems w/your back or shoulders, it may exacerbate the situation if you have a very deep sink. I'll be honest, I'm 5'10" (the shortest one in my family...the rest range from 5'11" to 6'6") with long arms and I would not want a sink any deeper than the 9" one I have (well, 9" + 1.25" - 1" grid = 9.25" total depth). Mocking it up is a good idea, however, you really need to use it for an extended length of time to see if it will eventually bother you (you might not at first, but after a while or over time it may start to bother you or your DH.)

We have 2 single bowl stainless steel sinks on the opposite sides of our kitchen. I really loved them at first but after a couple of years I started becoming less satisfied and the dissatisfaction grew over time. Now, 7 years after putting them in, I regret our choice. It's one of the few regrets I have with the kitchen and unfortunately, it's nearly impossible to change. We constantly have to brush out the corners, even when the rest of the sink looks fine. When buying sink brushes I have to make sure they will actually reach into the corners because a lot of the times the plastic head will prevent the bristles from getting there. Water drains slowly because of the flatness of the sink and a lot of food chunks and sludge get left behind. This is particularly a problem with the larger sink where we have a grid. It's hard to nudge the bits of food toward the drain when the grid is in the way and the spray on our faucet isn't strong enough for particularly sticky food. And often a slight sludge will build up in the indents running toward the drain. I've had stainless steel sinks in the past but I never had problems like the ones I have with the zero radius sinks. Bottom line, I would not get another zero radius sink. I would look at the sinks that are close to zero radius but have more forgiving corners. I love the flat surface our sink grid gives us. There is no need for a flat sink under the grid and I'd prefer a sink with more of a slope so that it would drain more quickly and thoroughly. I've been really happy with the dimensions of our 2 sinks. Our large sink is 30"x17"x10" and it's where I do most of the work. It's large enough to handle several tasks at once. Our other sink is 13"x18"x10". It got hooked up about a month before the larger sink and I found I could perform just about any task in it (the depth allowed me space to rinse dishes under the faucet even when there was soapy water on the bottom.) Again, I really loved the sinks at first. But, as with many things that age, they require more and more maintenance to keep them looking good. I didn't have to pay the same attention to the corners during the first several year as I do now. Maybe wear and tear and minute scratches give more places for gunk to cling.
