Jo, Those poor babies are beyond sad. Like Jay, I'm going with a gut feeling that they are starving to death and are suffering from multiple nutritional deficiencies. I think that Marcy got the nutrient deficiencies identified exactly right, but I'm also concerned they're lacking micronutrients. I suspect there is something really wrong with the soil in those pots, but I don't necessarily know what it is. It could be she used regular garden soil dug out of the ground, which is a big no-no. Or, she may have used a 'cheap' bagged potting soil which has a heavy clay content and which drains slowly. If she tells you that her soil stays wet all the time, then I think there's a poor soil/drainage issue. The excess moisture clogs the roots so they cannot take up nutrients in the normal manner. That's why the foliage is so discolored and you see the purple veins. I'd foliar feed, alternating between Miracle Grow and Liguid Seaweed. I'd top dress with Espoma Tomato Tone too, following the package directions. If you have received more info on how they're being grown, please share it with us. I also think they look really leggy, so suspect they may not be getting enough sunlight. Either that, or so much is wrong nutritionally that the plants are not conducting photosynthesis in the normal manner. Jo, I don't know if feeding them will save them. They are so sad-looking. However, the fact that a tomato has set gives me hope that she can turn them around and turn them into productive plants. Dawn

Laura and Others, Thanks for the help and the questions are not a problem. To start, the pot it is in, honestly I do not know gallon size but it is probaby a 8" dia. by 8"-10" deep. It is a white (maybe off white), because being a novice I didnt know how much bottom heat helped when I planted it (now I do from reading all the posts). As for the planting mix that I used, I am not 100% sure, it was quite a while ago. I do understand the need for fast draining soil, and I am pretty sure that I used a cactus mix for it as I knew when I planted it that it need to drain well. For the sun, being in SoCal we do get plenty of sun, and currently I would say that it probably gets sun from around 8-9 am till the sun goes down which is around 8 pm currently. Actually I start it off on a table in my back yard, then after my sprinklers are done at 9 am I have my wife move it to the edge of the patio so it will be in the sun till the end of the day and have the bottom heat from the concrete. In the feeding or fertilizer dept, I actually have never feeded it till last weekend. Again being new at this, I just didnt know. After reading as much as I have though, I did get a fertilizer last weekend that I believe is 7-55-17(or 12 cant remember off the top of my head). And I do plan on using it possibly every other week? Well I think that answered all of your questions to give you a better idea. I have thought of a couple more though. I was looking to possibly purchase a couple more, but is it to late in the season to start rooting them? Where I am in CA it seems to be in the high 80s- mid 90s during the day till at least Oct. Also for fertilizer, I have seen that some people suggest also using a micronutrient, which I do have for other plants. Would this be reccommended? Last thing, Laura, you mentioned that it sounds as if it should be well rooted. Personally I hope so, but is there a chance that it isnt? I mean would it have survived this long otherwise? It has had leaves come and go for probably a year and a half now. With that though is there a way that I could check to see how the roots are doing? Problem is I do not want to damage them or shock the plumeria if they are doing fine. Again thanks for all the help. Everyone has always said I have a green thumb, I dont want my green thumb to fail me on this plumeria. Also I will try to post a picture tonight. Andrew

You're welcome Tracy. LOL, yes it is information overload but you can try using the search box and include pot or potted in your search. Sometimes I have better luck using a Google search and including "Gardenweb" in the search. Your tree in the photo does not look overwatered. The main sign of overwatering is yellowing leaves that drop. Our lemon lives outside on a deck where it gets automatically sprinkled each morning and it does not develop yellow leaves out there. Of course I am in an extremely dry climate. My overwatering problems have all been when the tree is inside for the winter. I hope I have finally learned not to water it too much in the house. My tree is in a much too large self watering pot. That's another thing I learned from reading on the net. I should have left it in the two gallon nursery pot for probably the first two years before increasing the pot size. Another major tip that I got , I think from dcarch, was to use a daylight corrected LARGE CFL bulb for additional light in the house. This is a much cheaper solution than a grow light. I got mine on Amazon and have it in an ordinary clamp light fixture without the reflector. Even though it is covered by shades, it is pretty bright from the outside of our house at night and Max feels it is offensive from the street. I don't think I could get another one for the other side of the tree without a major argument so I rotate the tree, which is on a wheeled stand, every couple of days. Mine is in an East facing window and doesn't get enough natural light. I'll take a couple of photos later in the day of the tree and the food I have been the most successful with. Lee
