Yeah really, how'd I miss this thread too? W/ her flaring/glaring eyes I think she looks like Demon Kitty & a puuurfect companion for the quite realistic looking buzzard. Must've been somthin' to eat dinner under their watchful eyes (did Demon Kitty stay up there very long?) W/ an eye that forever notices color & design, may I add they both look that much more striking against the orange faux finish behind them! Nice work Ms. Jen.

Very interesting! I always thought it was amazing that our lop could flip around in midair to get away from a scrub jay but jays got smart & 2 would attack 1 in front 1 in back of her head nipping her good. We put long netting over side yard so she had a safe place from them. She had a cat out of the yard with 1 whomp of her back feet. I thought bees had incredible sense of smell, guess not as good as honey bees or they would smell the air above them. I don't think buzzards are too smart my dad & I watched a couple out in the dessert a long time ago, I think they were trying to figure out if critter was dead-,real dead, pieces, but still just nipped at it longest time before deciding they could dig in. Hope the big hurry isn't because of bad weather approaching. I saw a group circling a couple weeks ago and one was much lighter than the others. They were flying too high for me to tell whether it was another type of bird or an albino buzzard. I've been watching for it again but haven't seen it. We had a discussion about buzzards migrating awhile back that was interesting. Here is a link that might be useful: Do Buzzards Migrate

Had a close encounter with a buzzard at the weekend. My poor cochin chicken 'Pepper' had an even closer one! I watched in horror as the buzzard plunged onto my poor hen. Within seconds the buzzard had dismembered the head. My futile sprint across the garden just led to this enormous bird( when close up) taking off with Pepper slung below. I am guessing that this is just normal behaviour and Pepper was unlucky. Although I have been keeping hens in the garden for 20 years and this has never happened before. Is it because this breed of chicken is small enough to become buzzard friendly?
