They had a pink climbing rose at Lowes but forget the name of it. Would have got one but they looked pretty pathetic. I looked on the tag of the 2nd one said it was grown in Canada but it didn't have the name of "Demokracie" anywhere on the tag that was tied with string around the main branch of it. So I imagine like the first one it is the Original blaze. It is doing so awesome the first one. Here is a picture of it. And I found out I can plant the 2nd one I got up against the Wooden Fence like this one only further down. YAY!! Discovered caterpillar or rose slugs not sure which on it anyhow I picked them off and threw them over the fence :) Was on just one branch as you could tell by the leaves. I also removed two that had the leaves like a cocoon with the caterpillar in it so just removed that entire leaf bract and pitched it over the fence. Haven't seen any since on it. I didn't want to spray it as we do have chickadees and chipping sparrows come to our gardens too. Have set up a small birdhouse in it and the chickadee have taken up residence it . They are sooooooo cute.

Too many. I had to remove plants from a large holding bed and don't have new beds to put them in as it has been too cool & wet or hot & wet here all summer to make new beds. And just where will I put a long bed for lilies, daylilies and mums/asters? More will be potted up when we redo the driveway this fall but those will go back into the same beds. Other plants are being removed as beds are reconfigured due to construction of a new deck late last fall. Visitors took home 6 plants today and I have more to give away or sell this fall.

As soon as I hear those three dreaded words - "Gulf of Alaska"- on the TV weather report, I know we are in for a seige of misery. It used to be just a short lived period of time, but the recent lows are unusually brutal, because they are continuing on and on, with no breaks. Yes, I was here in 1990 and all the way back into the 50's, but I don't recall it ever being so bad, this early, and for such an extended period of time. Maybe I blot unpleasant things out of my memory that I hate, and I HATE snow and freezin temps! Predictions for tonight, are that temps will not go as low, but then will drop again tomorrow, (Friday) and will stay well below freezing over the weekend. One of the reporters said that is a chance of a tropical rain storm coming in around Christmas, that will warm things up and drop a significant amount of moisture! I hope the predictions are right on that one!

Hi Karen, IÂm happy for you that your big plants are going to make it! If there was ever a chance for you to recover from plumeria addiction, it will disappear when your own plants bloom for you. ItÂs said there are no ugly cats, but that some are more beautiful than others. This also applies to plumeria. Your nighttime temps are ok for starting cuttings. Water them well the day you plant them and then wait at least a month before watering them again. Place your pots on concrete in order to provide bottom heat; I always used the edge of my driveway at my last house. Rooting may take as long as ninety days. Reds as a group are the most prone to rot; some rainbows are also very rot prone during rooting. Let what you see guide you after the first thirty days. If leaves are developing begin watering lightly and infrequently until leaves are six to ten inches, then start giving lots of water. When they are well rooted you are in the clear; a few varieties have a reputation for being rot prone even in their second year, but once rooted, plumeria are tough plants that can tolerate anything except freezing, standing water, and cold wet feet during dormancy. IÂm using BillÂs bottle method for making a planting cavity in the pot because it makes a lot of sense. I can tell you it provides excellent support for the cuttings until they have roots to hold them in place. Also no soaking wet soil is held in direct contact with the bottom of the cutting while it is rooting, decreasing the odds of rotting. As water vapor evaporates through the perlite and pumice on itÂs way out of the pot, the cutting senses there is water nearby and sends out roots to find it. Philip
