Maybe instead of sending hundreds, you could start with a smaller number? I think that's what I'd do in your situation. For my own project, I bought a Canon scanner that takes slides and various sizes of negatives.

Hi Susan, That is something I have been thinking about doing, but it is pretty pricey and the more you send the better the price. I have hundreds. I still might though. Does your Cannon scanner have the "ice" technology by chance? The ones I looked at that did were really expensive. We have done some on our scanner, but I think the outcome could be better. Do you have to do one at a time?

Below is a link to my scanner, Canon's 9950F. I don't know about the "ice" technology, but it was highly recommended by the folks at DPReview and others. I believe you can scan slides in batches. I think I paid around $350 for it.

The reason I know so little about it is that it's still in the box. I was living by myself when I ordered it, but since then my son and DIL have moved in temporarily, and I no longer have a place to set it up. That's my excuse, anyway. :-)

I see that Amazon no longer has it available. By the time I get it up and running, it will probably be outdated...

alisande, Thanks for that info. After looking at the reviews of your scanner, I am wondering if I should do them myself. It sounds impressive. You can do a batch of 35 at a time it says, btw.

If you do scan your slides you want to scan them at a very high resolution, do NOT use ICE if you have it - tends to cause pixelation when enlarging slide images for large prints, and be sure to use a slide holder and use a can of air to clean each slide before scanning.

This is part of my business that my hubby & I own and have learned alot of little tricks to getting the best quality prints from slides.

lynn, I saw your email after I did send off some slides. I decided to try a small batch first and see how they come out. It was confusing to me...I dont know that much about it. Had to choose dpi and I went with 2000 and they do use the Ice technology, so I will let you all know how they come back. They are putting them on a disc...discs. Several kinds. I tell you, I had to study that site for a while !! I just want to print 4x6 prints.

Just a note to be very careful when using canned air on anything. I love the stuff, but if you jostle the can you can end up with something other than air on the surface you're spraying.
