How to get hot dog buns all warm and squishy

like the vender's carts are. Are they steamed?

I want a hot dog with sauerkraut after reading a Der Weinerschnitzal (sp) thread on another board.

Yes, I'm pretty sure that they're steamed.

Try wrapping the Bun in a damp Paper Towel and Microwave it for just a few seconds.

Chase, you did send me a jar of that chile sauce, my secretary says it tastes just like her late mother's chile sauce, which she's been trying to recreate for several years. It WOULD be good on a hot dog. Here, though, a chili dog has a kind of sweet hot chili without beans, mostly with ground beef. Now that it's been mentioned, I might like it better without the ground beef! Rita, those dogs are very mild, I don't taste any particular seasoning, mostly just a very mild "meat" flavor, if that makes any sense, kind of like a very mild bratwurst. They were good, although I have to admit that I liked the Italian Sausage best of the three that we've made, that was just so good. Shambo, go for it. What's the worst that could happen? You don't like it as hot dogs and then you brown it up and use it in chili or something similar, it's all good. Fun to experiment too. Earl, thanks for that link, I'm passing it on to Elery too. Ann t.......Our Peameal Bacon and Canadian Bacon are our home cure. I got interested in curing and smoking the pork loins from a post last summer from annie 1992. Quite a lengthy thread it was. I really doubt that "our Peameal Bacon" is anything close to yours in Canada. We tried tho and are pleased. The canadian bacon and peameal verison reminded me of the pork my grandparents cured way back when I was a kid about a hundred years ago. I have thought if I could find on the internet I would order, have never pursued that yet. Any suggestions? I too droll over all the posted pics of all breads baked and unbaked. Shirl

One of my old cats use to love to drink out of a glass (I think she liked it an extra bit when she thought it was a person's glass of water). As she got older, had more health problems, and needed to drink more water, I sometimes got in the habit of setting a glass of water out somewhere near to where she was. Her brother loved to drink from a dripping faucet and could manage to get in the tub to drink out of that dripping. Sometimes I plugged the tub and then he would have a little reservoir of water to play in after a few minutes, and I could turn off the drip. Could or would your cat get in the tub? Sometimes they like ice and if you throw a few cubes into the water bowl it will intrigue them and get them to drink a little more. Good luck.

Love hotdogs! Nathan's all beef either grilled on the bbq or fried in a cast iron skillet on a toasted bun with yellow mustard and sweet relish. Or as a chili dog topped with chopped onions and cheddar cheese. I also really like hot links on a toasted bun with yellow mustard only. Not sure if I like the dogs or the yellow mustard best! I'd eat them more often, but know they aren't the healthiest food choice. I also know they are full of stuff that would gross me out if I knew it was in there, so I don't want to know what's in there. Ignorance is bliss in this case. A friend of mine once served turkey dogs to her then young children. Her daughter took a bite, got a funny look on her face and as she pulled back her head came away with a long white feather in her mouth. Put her off turkey dogs for life!

1 wet paper towel
1 cheap store brand hotdog bun

Directions
Wet a paper towel and ring out all of the excess water
Place the hotdog bun in the paper towel and completely roll the paper towel around the bun to cover it
Microwave for 12-15 seconds (depending on the strength of your microwave)
Unwrap bun, fix hotdog and enjoy :)

Thanks everyone. Was gonna run to the store at lunch at buy some dogs and buns. Got to the front door before I realized I walked to work this morning and don't have my car. DUH!
I know what dinner tonight is gonna be though!

I just leave them in the plastic bag they come in, I open it up and zap for about 30 sec. That makes them exactly like the steamed ones. So, I don't see why you can't do the same with a zip lock bag and just leave part of the top open.

here's what I do...
while I'm boiling the dogs I put a cooling rack over the pan, place the buns on it then cover them with a mixing bowl. The buns get really steamy while the dogs are cooking.

I made the perfect, perfect, der winerschnitzel dog last night. Steamed dog, steamed bun (thanks you guys!), saurkraut and mustard. Oh, my, gosh! Heaven.
I was about halfway done when the phone rang. Went to answer the phone. Conway scarfed down the rest of my dog. Saurkraut, mustard and all. Have no idea how he got in the middle of the table without disturbing anything else on the coffee table.

I put the micro wave on defrost, and zap them for a few seconds.
