We have a kitchen set with black chairs/black pedestal. We had white previously and I wanted something different.

The black one looked so sharp to me but the DUST on the black set is awful and requires much more keep up than the white ever did.

I'd get white or cream next time over the black.

Yes, they are grease magnets - Don't Do It!!!!!!!!!! Ha ha, sorry...I just really regret it. We had black chairs and black table dining set from Pottery Barn and the table was the worst but it had so many defects and after 3 replacement (all with defects) we finally went with a wood stained table but kept the chairs. They are horrible to keep clean...horrible. I have three young boys and I would not have bought them had I known how difficult it would be. We just bought a table/chairs for our breakfast nook and I got white with natural wood for the table/chairs and it's so much better/easier to keep clean.

We have a new black table in our kitchen, and I love it. That said, the dust is incredible. It's just DH and I so I don't mind the upkeep, but if I had little ones at home.......

I don't have black chairs so can't speak to that.

Ahhhh Dee. I think I may post that somewhere as a reminder for myself. What a GREAT QUOTE> I want a tan chenille sectional. With 5 kids under 7 yrs old (3 of them boys), my sister said I am INSANE = go with leather. So there the phrase comes into play, I wish I lived with chenille but with our lifestyle am I destined for wipeable leather (or microfiber)? I really dont want a dark leather or brown microfiber but wonder, do I have any other choice. On the flip side, sometimes I do what others recommend and then regret why I didnt just get what I wanted. Ohhh the decisions. I thought buying new furniture would be thrilling and exhilarating. Not so as I havent found "the one"yet for any of my pieces. I guess I will know it when I see it. thanks for the advice everyone.

I agree and would definitely stay away from black. If you want a change from white or cream what about a light to medium silvery gray or even a taupe?

I agree with the others, black will show dust like crazy. I have a black hutch in our kitchen that I haven't noticed get greasy, but keeping up with the dust on the hutch is a PITA.

I have a black table and chairs. One complaint is that it shows A LOT of dust. I clean my table and chairs once a week (that is besides all the times I wipe the table down after a meal) and it seems like there is always dust for me to wipe.

The finish on the table is kind of glossy (maybe glossy is the wrong word but it's not dull) and it shows fingerprints and other weird markings from skin.

Hindsight is 20/20 but I don't think anything else would have went well in my kitchen anyway. We plan on having kiddies hopefully in the near future and I'm sure it will be not only a dusty but greasy mess filled with fingerprints LOL

I don't have black but espresso colored chairs and table and I dust them more than anything else in my house. I'd like to get rid of them but I just bought them less than 2 years ago.

We don't have black but we have cherry/chocolate stained chairs and they are terrible grease magnets! And nothing seems to get them clean. Or, they look clean for exactly 5 minutes until someone (not just my kids) touch them again!

I have a black table with black stools, and they aren't grease magnets, but the dust is AWFUL! And every little mark or ding shows horribly.

That being said, they look amazing in our dining room.

I have a Pottery Barn lack table and chairs - hate it! Yes, the chairs are grease magnets. It's my biggest furniture regret.

When we first moved into our house, I purchased 2 barstools in black for the kitchen. We had an existing table we used until we later replaced it. I am so glad I "tried" out the black barstools, because when we did get a new table and chairs I stayed away from black! My countertops are black so I wanted to bring that in so I went with leather upholstered seats- Love them! My new barstools and chairs are med.- dark cherry, much better than black. IMHO
