Papillon Breeders

Hi All!!

I was wondering if anyone here might know of a breeder for the Papillon. I have been really looking into that breed since our 14 year old Brittany passed. and I will not buy from the pet store......We drove to a *breeder* 2 hours away from us, south, and it was just a prefect backyard breeder.....3 different litters...lot of dogs running around....poop on their butts....One dog had an eye missing.....needless to say we left....I have been in contact with the president of the Papillon club in Chicago....no pups.....Out of the real breeders in the states here, the ones that have pups are in Texas or out east....LOL.....Is there anyone here that know of any? I will not breed and will not show......I am planning on going to the show that is going to be in a few weeks in Chicago....I don't want dogs from the pet stores that have been breed.....

I have a co-worker that has a Papillon, neat little dog. I don't know of anyone off the top of my head but keep in mind that in order to get a good dog, and particularly a small breed that doesn't have a lot of puppies in a litter you may have to be on a waiting list for a while. I'm waiting on a Doberman puppy now. While I want the pup yesterday to get what I want, not nessesarily a show dog, but a good healthy one I am waiting for a litter that will be bred this fall from a breeder I trust.

Did you check out a rescue organization? Maybe they have one in your area.

Carrie, that was my old post, 11 years ago. I used to have the name Jaspermplants but had to change it at some point, don't remember why. In the time since that post I have gotten busy with some other stuff and don't have as many roses as I used to. At that time (I think Vintage was still around), I was experimenting a lot and had a lot of successes and failures. Also, it has gotten hotter here since then and we have had ongoing drought so some roses haven't done as well as they used to, especially in the past 2-3 years. It is very worrisome. Looking back at that post, I still have Mme Bravy which is probably fairly hard to find now; I probably got it (and many others) at Vintage, which was like heaven because they had so many varieties of roses. The others that still do well for me are Duchess de Brabant and Mme Joseph Swartz, Maman Cochet and the climbers, Souv de la Malmaison (which is full of blooms now) and a couple of her sports which I also have. I don't think you could go wrong with having Souv de la Malmaison here; it is truly wonderful. Romaggi Plot Boubon is great but I had to take the one I had out and I can't remember why. I've had a new one for about 2 years but it has been slow to develop. Mrs BR Cant also had to come out and I have a new one (a couple years old) but it has not done as well. She gets huge though. But she bloomed constantly. Also, I don't worry about what does or doesn't bloom in the summer; it is survival time for roses here then. But, they bloom most of the rest of the year here. So, conversations about what should bloom in our awful summer heat are not applicable to my rose-growing. I also have some moderns I like, I think I mentioned in another thread: Firefighter. Fragrant Cloud, St Patrick, Marmelade Skies. I don't have a lot of them, but I enjoy brighter colors too, at times. There are many more that do well here; besides the heat, the climate is pretty good for roses here, I think. I just experiment and try try again. Good luck

Thank-You Mazer! I do understand and know about the rescue groups......I have taken in cats that were found and such.....I send in money and support our local Humane Society.....I just really want a Papillon and have since our beloved Ginger was two....that was the first time we saw the pap......I said that one day I would own one......She had to be put down 3 months ago and the age of 14, so now is that time and I do feel guilty sometimes wanting to get the Papillon instead of the homeless dogs, but ya know.....I have done my share, and it's want I want......I will always help them local....Thanks for suggesting it, as some might not know.....The first one you say about letting me on the property...That is one reason I posted because I am here and Monarch are there......I can't drive there.....But they do ship......that is another thing I am mixed about.....some do and say it's fine if you do it right, and others say NO WAY!.. Used to think I would like one but I'm pretty much over it now. Worked with one girl who got one and thought he was the neatest little dog ever, I'm still nuts about him. Then another co worker got one. The second one is awful. I've seen them described as having a personality like a mini Border Collie. Also from everything she or I have been told by owners or breeders they are very very difficult to house train. That's the deal breaker for me. At barely six months old this dog is humping others, lifting his leg on other dogs as well as objects, and wets in his owners bed on a pretty regular basis. He has no real aversion to soiling his crate either. And again from what we've been told this type behavior is not uncommon. Don't care how cute and little he is, that translates to yard dog. Which all really baffles me since they are so good at agility and obedience trials. Lisa

When you go to the show in Chicago talk to different breeders. Catch them ringside AFTER they have shown. Remember the breeders are under stress till they finish showing. If you find someone that you are intersted in and has pups coming they usually travel for shows and would probably be willing to meet you with pup so there is no flying pup. Also many breeders will transport pups for friends/other breeders that meet at shows. Good luck, nice breed.

There are two AKC all-breed dog shows this weekend at the Lake County Fairgrounds in Grayslake, Illinois. Papillon entry on Saturday is 17 and they are in ring #6 at 10:30 am. Entry on Sunday is 14, same ring, at 10:15 am. But on Sunday there are 5 breeds ahead of them totaling 59 dogs so the paps probably won't be shown until around 11:30.

Thanks Everyone!

I do know that their is waiting lists, thanks.....I am on a few.....Their is Braylor's, Forevr's, Farley's out east and Pixiedust will be having some pup's soon....but I was hoping to get a pup by this spring.....I am willing to wait, but you know.....LOL....

Thanks a lot Jan for that information....I do have plans on saturday, but I am not sure of sunday.....do you have a link for that? Are you going?

You can go to royjonesdogshows.com and look for Park Shore Kennel Club and Chain O Lakes Kennel Club. It will bring up the judging schedules and breed numbers for both days.

Yes, I am going. Have our young boy entered both days.
