fixing/touching up white cabinets

Hello,

I have a "white kitchen" that is only about 2 years old. The cabinets are maple, painted white. There are several places where the paint is already chipping, such as around the doors (where the two doors meet) and at the bottoms or tops of the drawers. In some places I can actually chip the paint right off if I wanted too. My kitchen does see a lot of action, it's central to our home and I have two small boys. My first question is, is it normal that the paint would be chipping this soon? Even though we use it a lot, it doesn't seem right that it would have so much wear so soon. Some of the cabinets that are chipping are not even accessible by my kids so they can't be blamed either. Secondly, how do I fix the chips without looking like I've just touched them up and is there any advice on how to prevent further damage? We used a private cabinet maker that came recommended from a friend so I'm not even sure what paint he used though I could probably find out.
