Surgery is scheduled for March 12th

I thought I posted this but I can't find it. They're doing a total hysterectomy abdominally. I guess I'll be in the hospital for 2-3 days or so. Then home for recovery. Will try to keep everyone posted. Wow so soon, not to get that stupid colonoscopy scheduled between now and then!

We will definitely have native azaleas there to support the presentation on those. GNPS is actually the vendor for those, purchasing them directly from a nursery that specializes in native azaleas. We will have other vendors with a mix of plants: perennials, ferns, and shrubs. I think you could get a lot of plants there and enjoy the presentations as well. If you cannot make it there, the GNPS native plant sale (which is huge) will be April 21st at Piedmont Park. But I hope you can attend the symposium.

With Chemo, I've gained back 38! darn it! but now that I don't need to take the steroids, and they took me off of one of the chemicals, I'm really working on it again. You will feel so much better! and more energy! wishing you good luck and a fast recovery! and I hope Sharon comes back and sees this! She is up north right now, if I remember correctly! with her family!

Yes JP- Start rockin that knee ASAP!! I'm preaching here from a downstairs bedroom! Damn spring cold!!! Missed work yesterday, & today is the normal day off. OSP- I KNEW it! Should'a had my surgery in JH!!! That way, I could've done my rehab at the Four-Seasons there....;-) DW & I walked through there in July 2013. Were staying in West-Yellowstone, but drove thru YNP one day, then down to JH. MIMI- I bet you've got lotsa rehab stories you could tell!!? My CPM-Machine was on when I woke up...I THINK... If not, it was on soon afterward! You also reminded me that I had started "Pre-replacement" exercises 2 months b4 surgery too! "Go in stronger" was kinda their mantra... Faron

TKRs are not the miracle solution for everyone they are touted to be. Yes they help so many but no one talks about the failed surgeries . My friend had knee replacement surgery in September of 2018. Recovery seemed to be going well. Pain was minimal. Physical therapy was going well except she could not gain stability. Her doctor said everything was fine. He did a needle biopsy for infection and put her on antibiotics ,just in case. Her knee continued to randomly buckle under her. Finally one of the physical therapists said she believed there to be tendon damage and the implant was off to one side. She went back to the doctor and he finally ordered the MRI he should have done the first time she came back. The therapist's suspicions were correct. He blew her off and told her to find a specialist. She found one at Stanford. So now she is facing a full reconstruction along with a tendon repair. She will be in a nursing home to recover for at least 3 months. She will not be able to do PT for the new knee itself until the tendon repair is healed. Her surgery was originally scheduled for this September. However she lost her place to live and had to move so now it is delayed until March of next year. This is how Medicare/MediCal (government run healthcare for the low income) works in real life folks. She uses a walker and her gait has gone from bad to worse. She has never been a person with a good gait to begin with. I have known her for over 25 years and she always had a bit of a rocking/toddling gait which progressed to a drop foot shuffle as we aged. I have my doubts that she will ever not need the walker after all this time. She has no pain at all due to nerve damage. She never had really bad pain with her old knee really. Nothing that couldn't be controlled with OTC pain relief and she was very active and walked a lot. I never let the words cross my lips but my private thoughts are that she should have never had the surgery in the first place. They told her she should because her knee was shot and life would be better in just a few months after it was done. I think people need to think twice before undergoing this popular procedure. To alleviate unbearable pain? Of course. To continue with a sport or activity they love? Of course. To see if they can drop the walker or regain balance that is affecting the lifestyle they wish to lead? Sure. But I look around at people my age who are using walkers and canes and many of them have have their knee or knees done. Too many look worse off now than before the surgery. I never considered that the surgery could go so wrong for so many. Her knee reconstruction is not without risks. It is a long painful recovery. Reconstructions have an even higher rate of failure. But at this point she feels she has nothing to lose. if she can get to place where she she can use a cane or at least go to use the bathroom without her walker she considers that a win.

hey want to do mine, too? just got the ok from the kidney doc as long as i use a certain "cleaner" that's kidney friendly...

2-3 stay is awesome...over the weekend so you can have dh and family come...

I'm glad you don't have to wait much longer. Thank you for letting us know....keep us posted, please! (I'll be drinking that swill right along with you and unfortunately for me, it's not only in spirit. I have a colonoscopy appt looming, too.

Vickey, I just stopped in for a minute but wanted to let you know that you are and will be in my prayers. So sorry to hear this but hopefully it will all be removed and you will be cancer free.

Vickey, may I ask what your job is? I don't understand you being allowed back to work that quickly. When I had mine, abdominally, in 1999, I was'nt allowed in a car even for 10 days. And didn't like the pain on day 11! And I'm a sahm. For once, I was yelled at for standing in the kitchen supervising dinner. DH and the kids were good about taking care of me, but DH doesn't cook and DD was just 15 and starting to take an interest in cooking. I had some things in the freezer for them to thaw and heat, but I know I didn't feel like doing anything, so was glad I wasn't allowed. You will enjoy your knitting time, though. While I was recouperating, I sent them to the library with a book title I knew had a crocheted baseball pillow pattern in it. Told them what yarn I wanted bought, and what size pillow form. Made it for my nephew's birthday, just in time to be allowed back in the car!

Of course you will be in my prayers.

JUST THINK NO MORE PERIOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!no more cramps,bleeding,pms,no more kotex,tampons,no more surprises un wanted kind.good luck,took me awhile to get use to no more periods,

Tami, hopefully it's just the hospital stay that's 2 or 3 days. She'll continue recovery at home for a specified period before returning to work or doing anything strenuous.

Vickey, all fingers and toes crossed for an uneventful procedure and quick recovery. Hugs.

my emergency surgery in June.. they did a bowel resection, I was in the hospital for 6 or 7 days. They had me up and walking 9 hours after surgery. I walked for hours every day. now, I couldn't eat anything, could just swirl those sponges around in my mouth for 2 or 3 days, and then a clear liquid diet. I never did get solid food in the hospital, lol. anywhoo... the small amount of time standing in the kitchen was no big deal. heck, they wanted me out and walking and walking and walking. Your body will tell you when to rest. I wasn't allowed back to work though for 4 weeks or was it 6? ah, my memory is shot. BUT, I lift 80 pounds or more into the van 20 times a day and lift, walk and squat all day. i would think that even if you had a desk job, they wouldn't let you go back at least for 2 weeks. just sitting alll day is NOT good either.

That's the best surgery any woman could have. A word of advice.....when they get you up for the first time....stiffen your whole body and swing out of that bed as one solid unit, not the normal one leg at a time. Hold that pillow tightly to your tummy and pray that you don't sneeze or cough. Get stiches, NOT staples like they used on me. Never again will I ever have staples. Follow the instructions given and you will do fine.

Pris, I understood the 2-3 days in the hospital. That's what I had. My concern is that they told her she could go back to work so soon after that. I wasn't even allowed to get in the car, except for the trip home from the hospital, for another 10 days after I came home, let alone go to work that soon.

I will continue to keep you in my prayers, Vickey.
