ewwwwwww that is just wrong. With that and the stuff they call the meat glue I doubt there is any real meat in what we eat today.

I get some of my meat from the Buffalo Coop, which my friend belongs to. He raises them. Made buffalo meatballs the other day and have rib-eye in the freezer. Good flavor!

I saw it also and found it very disturbing. I try to eat a well balanced and healthy diet...too bad our government agencies are not helping to support us! It seems to me that we are undermined by them from the get go...maybe we should all become farmers!

One of the national news programs this evening had a list of those grocers who use it and those who don't. Costco and Whole Foods do not use it. I rarely buy ground beef but if I do I'll make sure to buy it at one of those two places from now on.

If you eat fast food - you eat it.

Actually I was reading articles today that listed several fast food restaurants that have banned it, including McDonalds, Taco Bell, and burger King.

Today I emailed our most popular burger place, In-n-Out. This is their reply about pink slime:

"In response to your inquiry, we do not use any fillers or additives in our meat patties. We use 100% beef and buy our beef exclusively from local suppliers that are in strict compliance with all USDA and FDA regulations. All of our suppliers are in the Southwestern United States, and most are in California. Because our suppliers are in close proximity to our meat processing operations, our Quality Team is able to ensure our exceptionally high quality standards are consistently met."

It is so carefully worded that it makes me suspicious. Pink slime is made from the cast off beef parts, so when they say they use 100% beef....

it is considered a filler so he may have covered that with his statement that they use no fillers or additives???

And we wonder why we have sooooo many more rare diseases and cancers running rampant...hmmmmmmm...

Between this weeks story on slime, the caramel color in sodas, and our overuse of plastics (instead of glass), one can only wonder............

That was the grossest thing I had read for a very long time. Most of our beef comes from a local organic beef farmer, pork from an old fashioned pork farm, chicken from a natural poultry farm, they are all good, none use enhanced feeds or antibiotics. I'm thinking from here on in it will be 100%.

My dad always ground his own beef, and so did I. I haven't eaten it in a long time, but I sure won't be buying it now. Our food supply system is badly in need of an overhaul.

I read the article this morning....including the part where they mention the woman who okay'd the use of pink slime when she had a high-ranking job with the government. Then she went on to make millions from the company that profits most from the use of the slime. Nice.

Makes me extremely glad I have not had meat in 30 years. The thought of it just grosses me out, never mind the pink slime. All meat seems slimy to me. .

Sure makes you want to avoid meat.

But...the caramel coloring in Coke and Pepsi -- Tests
have proven that you would be in danger if you

I have also said that soda pop is the new cigarettes for our generation. I think in years to come we will find out that it causes many, many cancers and illnesses. :-(

I don't drink coffee or tea, I am part of the Pepsi generation! So I can only imagine what fate has in store for me! I have tried to quit sooooo many times........

Another reason to be glad . I was a member of the Pepsi generation too, but gave us soda 20 years ago. To be healthy eat veggies, fruits, and NO processed foods or meats with hormone additives.

I have a gran son that raises beef cattle and does his own butchering and processing, so I know we're safe from the "pink slime"....
But, I think, now days, almost anything you put in your mouth is questionable.....
I think my garden will be getting bigger and bigger......

That should be gave UP soda 20 years ago..And my garden also will get bigger this year. The only was to know you're safe. Look how many people died eating cantaloupes last year. Who would have thought?

They are putting meat by products in meat. Simply sickening. lOL

They are actually going through a decontamination process to make the meat we eat safer? The horror! The horror!

Ammonia is a naturally occurring compound in the universe comprised of nitrogen and hydrogen. Stop and think for a moment what else contains ammonia that you consume. It is used in baked goods and was commonly used in the HOME in baking before baking powder was made available (and can still be used today for that purpose). It is used in pharmaceuticals. Your own body produces it.

Some media ho tv cook comes up with this hysterical stuff and the media has now jumped on it.

Don't forget codfish is full of worms, aged beef in the finest steakhouses has had mold all over it and heavens don't ever ever visit an egg farm. Better avoid ice cream too. It may have processed beaver anal glands to enhance the sweet taste.( ask Jamie Oliver) Love the red velvet cake with NATURAL red coloring? Crushed beetles. Like those colorful jimmies on your fat free frozen yogurt shop? Lac beetle poop makes them so shiny. Same with other hard coated candy like Skittles.

So I guess that means every one has to go back to farming naturally like our great great ancestors did. Of course they live to the ripe old age of 60 if they were lucky and the large families were to insure that enough children survived those times. But hey it was a natural time. No chemicals to fight disease, no pasteurization, no vaccines, no antibiotics. Yep. it was a wonderful life albeit a shortened one.

Thank God most of our red meat is venison. I haven't even read the article and I'm disgusted. Does it affect store bought chicken also? Like a package of chicken legs or boneless, skinless chicken breast?

I am going to chime in here and say that most likely we have been eating many things that we do not know about, and much of this 'new' information is what is changing things that we really ought to be aware of. I don't advocate mass hysteria, but "change" comes first by being aware of 'whatever'. I am a "wanna-be" vegetarian for many years for many reasons. Living in one of our food processing areas of Ca. was an education...and only by people becoming aware of some of those 'processing methods' of live animals have we as a society removed some of the cruelty involved in those processes...not all or enough, by any means. I really believe that if more of our population thought about the "sustainability" of the products we purchase...and support those ideas, our planet could heal itself. We shouldn't be 'returning to the soil' plastics and chemicals, and pesticides....when there are better ways. And, yes...that is the way my grandfather farmed his land and raised his cows and produced pure milk and cream and plowed the (chemical-free) manure back into the soil. They lived hard lives...and all his children and grands survived, not one died of anything, and all his milk producing cows had names (and codes on their ears) but they were members of his work-force and appreciated for being such. Visit a dairy factory that milks 2,000 cows 24 hours a day round the clock. Smell the manure...the urine in cess pools where workers sometimes die being overcome by fumes of amonia. Look at that piece of cheese...think about that cow that is made pregnant many times during her lifetime, only to have her baby removed and made into veal and she put back on the production line as soon as possible. BTW...most of them are not living on green grass EVER...the winter they are wadding in smelly mud and only their teats are sprayed by some chemical to make them sanitary...in summer on parched ground in the hot sun.
