This is more of a memory tester than you might think! This list doesn't count cars that were primarily my wife's mode of transportation, or the 1931 Model A Ford I bought to fix up. Never drove it; decided it was beyond my capabilities, resold it.

1972 VW Super Beetle - pumpkin orange with a sunroof

1974 Chevy Nova blue with a 350 CI 8 cylinder engine

1976 VW Rabbit green econobox

1973 Ford Thunderbird* ugly brown 427 CI V8, FAST! Gas Guzzler!

1978 AMC Concorde silver nothing special

1982 Subaru+ 2 door coupe 5 speed stickshift

1982 Ford Escort* tan good pizza delivery car

1998 Ford Escort* green ditto

2000 Jeep Cherokee* 'patriot blue' 4WD

* bought used

+ bought my wife a new van, sold the AMC, started driving this. I was kind of 'hard' on the first few, you might say....

1976 Ford Pinto, didn't blow up on me, but I was never rear-ended 1976 Honda CVCC--my friends called this a beer can. Because it looked like one to them. Could reach over and roll down the window on the passenger side while driving, without leaning over. Small! 1988 Pontiac LeMans-the car they brought back from the 60s only uglier and less durable. The first car I ever ever bought. 1990 Mitsubishi Eclipse-At this time, Mitsubishi, Dodge, and Eagle (remember them?!) were in collusion, I mean had agreements, in place and Eagle made the Talon. Daddy liked my Eclipse so much he bought a Talon. 1990 Mazda Miata--you know how I feel about that one!!!! 2011-1990=21 years old. Still running strong. After bankruptcy, foreclosure, and divorce... AND it got flooded, there is no A/C (I don't care), no heater (I don't care), the driver's window doesn't crank up or down, I can pull it instead, and the radio just went out. I might fix that. I did just get a brand new convertible top and it'll likely work another three or so years. My parents owned, during my lifetime, and I rode in: '67 Jaguar XKE (CHECK THIS CAR OUT!!!!) Late 70s Grand Torino Ford, Pinto (the same one) A really huge and old Oldsmobile that I learned to drive on. Ugh. Cars my boyfriends/husbands have owned, and I drove/owned: 196? VW Bug (two of them) 198? Honda CRX (two of them) 1986 1/2 yes, a half year??? Toyota Celica, Supra (two of them) Oldsmobile Cutlass Nissan pickup Mazda 626 Mazda Protege Isuzu Rodeo The weird thing is, the two bugs, two Hondas, and the two Supras are the same two guys. Both guys onwed all those cars in succession. Where they deviate? After I broke up with boyfriend of eight years, he bought a Nissan Pathfinder. The one I married and stayed married to for 11 years, owned an ordinary Nissan pickup. Weird!!!!!

I would think that after two years, the gas is too stale for the car to even start or run - so best of luck here.. An excellent idea, lamguy, pull the plugs and shoot some oil in the cylinders - but this should have been done two years ago ( a fogging operation).. Best to change all the fluids before running the car.. Maybe pull the rotors and drums and remove the rust - if necessary... If the car was stored in a conditioned area, you are in good shape...

Remember my little red '90 Dodge Colt, made by Mitsubishi, that I bought about '97 and drove for about seven years: it had a standard tranny and when I drove out almost daily to look after uncle's farm before it was sold that I found that I could coast over 16km. of the 20 km. trip? At something over 200,000 mi. the mechanic told me that I shouldn't drive it any more. I took it to a TV evangelist-related drug rehab "Teen Challenge Farm" nearby and they gave me a receipt for $400. for it. A friend at the investment group was surprised at my story, "What? They gave you a $400.00 receipt for that piece of _____!". They'd given one to him for something not too far over $100.00 for a newer (Ford, I think) that was in better shape, some time earlier, so his nose was rather out of joint over that deal. They signed the portion of my vehicle registration paper that's to be used for transfer, I took the plates off and took them home. A few days later I got a receipt in the mail for the $400.00 ... and had no trouble with it from the income tax people when I claimed it. ole joyful

Catching up here. I’m so glad Rocky is better! What a scare you had. Faron, good to see your new car, and also nice to hear others are out trying and buying new ones. Must be in the air. I have had a touch of new car fever myself. Mine usually starts with noticing new models in the road, on-line searches and research, and trying to decide what I want next. I don’t ‘need’ a new car, but am trying to resolve whether I want to get a small SUV or crossover and trade in my sedan. Hard to figure out since DH has a 4WD king cab Tacoma truck and a couple of utility trailers anyway. So we don’t really need it for hauling anything except that I can cram a lot more plants and stuff in the back of an SUV than in a trunk. Plus I think they are cool. My car is so comfy and quiet on the road, and I want to make sure I get similar in whatever I get next.

My first car was a 1974 Roadrunner. (6 mths old) It was my boss's and I told him if he ever decided to sell, I'd love to buy it. So he sold it to me.
My second was a 1981 Camaro (used) which I hated. Got rid of that after a year.
    Next a 1986 Plymouth Turismo
A 1992 Honda Accord.(New) First standard I ever bought. Had it for 10 years. It just sipped gas. Loved it.
2002 Hyundai Sonata (New) Still driving it.

1966 Mustang sports model which is a collector's item. We traded that for a new 1971 Ford Country Squire station wagon. 1957 Ford Fairlane Convertible (Thank you, Daddy.)
    1960 Austin Healey 3000 Roadster
    ******Got Married********
DH's Pontiac Sedan (He made me sell the A-H; no garage.)
    Another Pontiac Sedan
    Added an Orange Nissan Wagon
VW Golf and MIL's big Pontiac (She quit driving.)
    Used Jaguar Sedan
Replacement Austin-Healey 3000 (Nag, nag, nag gets results)
    New Jaguar Sedan
Nissan Sports Model (Sold Healey; no good repair shop.)
    Used Jaguar XJ-S Hardtop
    New Jaguar Sedan (Bought out-of-state)
    Jaguar X-Type

Most cars bought 'new', but last year's model w/extended warranty. This is also an especially good plan for cars the first owner ditches in six months -- after the 'toy' gets old. (Like the Jag XJ-S) Since DH retired we went from two cars to one. We keep our cars about 10 years.

Volkswagen Beattle, learned on this one

Corvair This was my husbands and was LEMON yellow and it sure was a LEMON.

1964 Plymouth Sport Fury convertible This was the first car I bought for myself. It was a great car and lots of fun.

1969 Dodge Charger We shipped it to Ethiopia and it got stuck in a dock strike. We didn't get it for over 6 months. When it arrived 6 weeks later we got orders and it got shipped back to NJ. Needless to say all that salt air ruined the wiring in that car. Had problems with it afterwards traded it in on a.

1974 Buick Century wagon We loved this car as we camped in it and took it everywhere even to Hawaii. Daughter stole it and blew the engine.

1979 Oldsmobile Delta 88 diesel We had 2 of these and they were great cars.

1988 Mercury Grand Marquis I drove that car for a lot of years and had very little trouble with it.

2002 Lincoln Town Car This is my present car and I just love it. It looks like it just came off the show room floor. When this one goes I am going to get another one.

    Have also had:

1986 Suzuki Cavalcade touring motorcycle (husbands)
1985 Gold Wing interstate touring motorcycle This was my very first bike and I loved it.
1985 Helix scooter We still have this one.
1996 Gold Wing touring bike This is husbands present bike.
1993 Gold Wing trike This is my present bike.

We're a car cult (except for Marilyn)! :-)

1951 Pontiac sedan (bought for $25 and sold for $50)
    1961 Cadillac
    1965 Cadillac
    1968 Cadillac
    1969 Fiat Spyder
    1971 Cadillac
    Several Jeep Wagoneers/Grand Wagoneers
    A couple of Suburbans
Present winter car: 2003 Toyota 4Runner Limited
Present summer car: 1992 Chevy Caprice (my cop car)

The 4Runner is the only one I bought new, and I only did that because I had to. All the others were a couple of years old--the best way to buy a car, IMO.

Over the years, in my heart I have lusted after a Jaguar XKE and anything in the Mercedes S class. I still want the Mercedes. I'm flexible about the class.

    Dodge Dart--Green
    Reliant--Brown
1989 Caravan (my first new car)--black cherry.

And my current 'baby'--a 2007 Voodoo Blue FJ Cruiser, purchased spring of 2006. Love that car, plan to keep it as long as I had my Caravan!

1957..first car: $25.00, 1941 Chrysler. Same age as me. I learned to drive with it.

    1959 1951 Ford Victoria hardtop..pink and white.

    1960 '55 Buick special hardtop.

    1962 Late fifties Buick Special

    1966 60-something Nash Rambler convertible..the "Green Bucket."

    ?? Used Toyota Corona..great car.

    197? Toyota pickup..a little workhorse.

197? New Dodge van, the only new vehicle I've ever owned, and a lemon.

    197? Another used Toyota Corona..over 200,000 miles when I
sold it. DH and I drove it 3,500 miles across country in 1987 to where I am today.

Next Toyota van. Okay, but the roughest riding thing I have ever driven. Blew a head gasket, and sold it.

Next Ford Tempo 4wd..great for the occasional snows around here. Engine blew..U-joints went out..sold it to a couple of suckers for cash. They abandoned it at a repair shop hundreds of miles away.

Next 1983 Toyota Tercel 4wd 4-on-the-floor wagon. Loved that car! Got T-boned and totalled it. Cried real tears.

Current 1997 Toyota Camry. Love it, though it seemed a little too "granny" at first. We've had it for five years, and have only had to fix the brakes.

Do you see a pattern here?

1978 chevy monte carlo - maroon. purchased use for $800.00. that was certainly a rip off. funny thing, i could take the key out and the car would keep running.

next was a 84 ford tempo. ford - FixOrRepairDaily. the car went brain dead in the middle of a busy road.

1986 plymouth voyage van. what a fantastic vehicle. i ran that baby right into the ground. it lasted me until 2001, when i got a

    ford windstar. biggest mistake.

i'm not sure what's next, i am considering a gmc - envoy or denali.

Ford Mercury (my mom's old car)

Ford truck (my dad's old truck)

Ford trucks (multiple old junkers owned by the ex, some in better shape than others, one you could see the ground through the rusted out floorboards)

Toyota Corolla (my first car I bought myself, another one over in Germany that was a hatchback, bought another Corolla when I came back from Germany, and had driven my mom's Corolla too)

Toyota Tercel, my mom's old car, which we bought off her after she got her new Corolla. No air and no power steering.

Ford Mustang, rental, worse car I ever drove as far as power goes, my mom's little Tercel had more get up and go.

    Toyota Camry, rental car.

After my Toyota's engine went out (no oil after he did my last oil change) I took it back to the guy I bought it from and he "bought" it back from me. Found out later that he cheated a lot of Americans from the base. Got a junker Opal Kadet (Cadet?) can't remember how you spell it or if that is the actual name of the car. It was a German car that I ended up having to put a new fuel tank into not too long after I bought it and one of the doors got messed up and I had to buy a used orange door (car was dark brown). Took forty minutes for the heater to kick in, by then I would be pulling into the base gate. I was dating the ex then and he used to do body work so he painted the door for me, which was better than an orange door, but the color never matched.

Old junker Oldsmobile Cutlass Sierra (Cierra?). Big gray car.

    Mitshubishi Galant (current car).

Ford Taurus station wagon, friend's car I've borrowed from time to time. Hate driving it. Never really liked any Ford car I ever drove.

Test drove a Toyota 4-runner, Honda something or other-couldn't see out of the rear view mirror too good, and Saturn, among others I can't remember. I think that's it.

1929 Model A Ford, 4 dr with window shade, roll-up, style curtains on rear side windows. Color black - was there any other color?

1949 Plymouth, 6cy, 2dr, 3-sp manaul, column shifter, Blue, the last of the fast back designs. (Horrible rear visibility)

1954 Dodge, 4dr, w/ Red Ram V-8, 3-sp stick. This one was not a large displacement engine, rated only at 140 hp, but was the smoothest running engine that I have ever owned. Color: White top over Blue bottom.

1960 Plymouth Valiant, slant six, 100 hp, automatic, 4 dr, blue. Low torque engine - couldn't get out of the way of itself. Good fuel mileage. No power steering - didn't need it - very good handling. The next year, a longer stroke engine was offered with much more torque. This one was very driveable and became the engine of choice.

1964 Dodge Dart, 273 cid V8, 4 dr, automatic, white w/red interior. This one was a good compromise between, power and fuel economy and room. I wish that I had another similar car today. This one was well liked. The engine was a thin wall cast version of the 318, but with a smaller bore. The bore centers were the same as the 318, thus it was manufactured on the same engine line as the 318. Many engine parts were interchangeable with the 318.

    1969 Dodge Coronet, 4 dr, 318 cid V8, blue
Just an ordinary sedan to hold my growing family. EPA fix-ups began to appear and degraded performance a bit without any fuel mileage increase - lower compression and a low ratio rear end ( 2.71 to 1) Though I put 115,000 miles on it before moving on.

1974 Dodge Sedan, 400 cid V-8. EPA had struck this engine hard. It was based on the admired 383 V8, an engine upgrade option for station wagons and police cars. To meet EPA requirements, Chrysler lowered the compression ratio and installed a very mild cam. The resulting power was so embarrasing that chrysler bumped the displacement up to 400 cu in to gain back a bit of performance. (An earlier 383 in good tune would run cicles around it.)

1974 Oldsmobile Cutlass, 4 dr, V8. Bought used for a 2nd car and commuter. Had to put in a valve job after 1 yr ownership. As it neared the end of its life, sold it to a junk yard. I didn't want to see this on the road again as it had become dangerous. The body metal holding the rear body mounts had corroded away. The best part of this car: The radio.

1975 Buick Apollo, 270 cid V-8 (Oldsmoblie engine), 4 dr, Yellow. The smallest V8 made by GM. Not a good car. Was purchased as 2nd car for a winter-beater and comuter. Let my kids learn to drive with this one - they were not going to win any stop light drags with it. In fact, they were lucky go to get across a big intersection before the light changed to red. I bought this car during a period of runaway inflation. It was 3 yrs old and loosing value at a lesser rate than my hard earned cash in the savings account. That became part of my rationale for picking it up for a 2nd car.

1976 Buick Estate Wagon, 4 dr, 455 cid V8, Clam shell rear gate and window; 19 ft long! This one was the family land barge and vacation machine. The family had now grown to 5 and this station wagon held us all in comfort on long trips. This was the first year that GM put catalytic converter on all of the Buick line. (GM had put catalytic converters on a few select models the year before as a field trial.) With the converter, Buick put in a better cam and iginition advance curve and got better power plus 2 more miles per gallon. I garaged this one every winter taking it off the streets just before road salting began and it stayed off until next spring after a rain had washed away the salt. I kept this one 13 yrs and it was in very good condition the day I traded it in. It was showing signs of a catalytic converter plugging up, otherwise, the engine was in fine shape.

1980 Chevrolet Citation, V6, 4dr + hatch back, green, my first front wheel driver. A fair car. Had a very good useable interior layout and driver visibility - wished there was a car with those features today. Had too much braking on rear wheels compared to the front - gave the car a tendency to swap ends while braking on slippery surfaces. Over- sped the engine one time when the tranny failed to catch 2nd gear on a downshift - it went all the way to 1st gear at 45 mph. Loosened a rod bearing.

GM got the steering geometry right on this one - no torque steer. The Chrysler K-car was plagued with torque ateer.

    1983 Chevrolet Citation, V8, 4dr, white
Engine was de-tuned a bit, but otherwise the same as the 1980.

1981 Pontiac Phoenix (twin of the Citation), 4 cy "Iron Duke", 4 dr., Brown. A dog. Served as a commuter. When climbibng a grade, engine vibration could be strongly felt in the steering wheel - each firing of the cyliners were perceptable. No. 2 son, a new driver, burned the engine up while driving home from a days outing with the guys. He had not been watching the oil level - it ran out.

1989 Dodge Dynasty, 4 dr, V6, Light blue
1st yr for Chrysler's new computer controlled transmission. It had issues - shifting algorithm should have been revised. It was programmed to give good results on the EPA fuel mileage test, but otherwise, was bad for commuting traffic. Car was too softly spring - people riding in back tended to get car sick.

    1992 Dodge Dynasty, V6, 4dr, White.
A much better car. Better handling. Held front alignment very well. Shifting algorithn improved, but still had glitches. I put 90,000 miles on it and sold it (cheaply) to my daughter. She moved out of state and later sold the car to her friend. By then, the rocker panels were holed out. I saw the car two years ago and it was still running with upwards of 140,000 miles on it.

1992 Jeep Cherokee, inline 4.0 L 6CY, 4dr, with part and full time 4-wheel drive, Red. Really liked this one. Gas mileage wasn't great, but it took us all over the lower 48 states and into places where an ordunary car could not go. We photograhed many interesting scenics using this vehicle. This one was my prime winter time driver - great in snow - can't beat it.

1998 Dodge Stratus, 4 cy, dual overhead cams, 4 dr, red.
An OK car - not great, but OK. Its gets very good gas mileage on trips and that is what I bought it for. Runs great. I beem garaging this one very winter and there are no rust spots.

1998 Jeep Cherokee, in-line 6 cy, 4 dr, again with part and full time 4 wheel drive, Deep Amethyst Purple (appears black under many lighting conditions).
Replaces the red Jeep which was getting body rust, but ran well - had 190,000 miles on it.

Not sure I'll remember them all but I'll take a shot at it.

    67 Buick LeSabre
74 Ford Courier (Mazda) mini Pickup
62 Chev Impala (dang near cried when that dumb broad totaled it one winter day.) Still has a soft spot in my heart. Old car I bought from my GF. One of the quietest I've ever been in, 283 V-8, 4dr and got 25 mpg on the highway. And had an engine you could work on easily.
    67 Chev Impala
    74 Mercury Comet
?? Datsun King Cab mini pickup
    ?? Datsun 280ZX
    ?? Jeep Cherokee
89 Mazda Cab Plus mini pickup
    ?? Chev Chevette
    94 Dodge Caravan
    05 Kia Sedona

Don't remember the model years on them all and I may have forgotten some but that's the highlights anyway. Some of them are out of sequence and I owned two cars a few times for different periods of time. I've had pretty good luck with all my vehicles, except the Jeep. The vans and the pickups were excellent choices and very practical, the 280ZX was my midlife crisis vehicle and the Jeep was a dream vehicle that didn't pan out. Out of the bunch, only 2 were purchased new. Doubt I'll ever buy new again. Several of them have special places in my heart. The 62 Impala, all the pickups, the 280ZX was fun to drive but dang near killed myself and 2 cousins in it while we were fooling around on country roads... and the Caravan made me change my mind on vans. Well hey, all my vehicles have given me memories and I guess not a lot of regrets.

Now if I were to add in cars I've driven!

Oh, yes. Being unable to easily extricate myself from them was another reason we sold the Healey and the XKS. Now I have two new hips I could probably manage, but not the Healey -- they really sit ON the road and I'm not going to do 'clutch' anymore! Both of these were hard to keep up -- the Healey because few places worked on them and the XJS because it was a 12-cyl car. Unfortunately, nobody in the family is a mechanic. DH's former boss so loved my XJS that when she retired to AZ she bought one! Zooooom!
