Yayagal...that makes me not want to replace ours with the silgranit. We'll see.

I've had my Blanco Silgranit kitchen sink for 5 years now, with absolutely no problems or cracks. Mine is in their anthracite color, which is basically, Black. I'm so sorry to hear about the problem with yours! I've loved mine since the day it was installed when we had our kitchen gut and remodel, and have sworn ever since that I'd never have anything but a Silgranit kitchen sink. I'd been planning on replacing our laundry room sink with one next. Please keep us posted with how Blanco handles this, will you?

Our DD has that type sink and hers cracked within 6 months so their contractor replaced it free (I'm assuming he went through the company as a warranty item). They were told it was a major fluke and that it never happens, but now I'm wondering after hearing of your issue. They were asked if they put a pot into it while the pot was still hot, etc, or if they dropped something into the sink, but that was not the case for them. Their replacement one is doing fine so far after nearly a year now. By the way, theirs was an undermount sink with a solid surface countertop, so contractor took a sledgehammer to it to get it out. Then they installed the replacement one from the bottom somehow.

My DIL had that type and it cracked within a few weeks. They bought their house the week before Thanksgiving (4-5 years ago) and I saw the crack at Christmas, so it had obviously just formed or was slow forming. Theirs was replaced but it was a headache to get the contractor to get in touch with the subcontractor who did it, as the "brand new" house was still under contractor warranty.

Well, I think I've solved the issue. Most reviews are so positive for this sink, but I was ready to switch to SS this morning. Then, I've been in touch with someone named Denise from customer service at Blanco, and she has been great. Took pics she requested of the looong crack, the serial # on the under side of the sink, and pic of the only receipt we had which was from the contractor we'd used, not from the supplier of the sink. The sink is back ordered a week, and since locally they were back ordered even further, she took my info & will send the sink directly here. We'll have the same contractor install the new one...sigh.

The sink is kind of "bowed" shaped on the side (we have an over mount), and the stainless sinks were not the same configuration, so she was concerned about the fit. SO, after working on this all morning in my robe, I decided to go for the easiest solve, and hopefully this one will hold up better. At least Blanco was responsive and helpful in solving the issue.

Not sure if I would go with the Silgranit if I were starting all over, but they do get great press and our contractor says he has put in many & everyone seems satisfied.

I will let you know how it turns out. Got another email from Blanco this am & they've arranged to have the sink double packed & sent to us after they receive it. I have big blue painters tape all across the cracked sink, so I don't space & accidentally use it!!

Again, glad we have our utility sink, but it's not quite as convenient :)

Great idea to use the painters tape reminder. If it were me, I know that I'd probably forget and use it, making another leaky mess to clean up (LOL)!

My DH says it looks like a crime scene with all the tape! It kinda is....LOL
