Here's the northeast corner where the desk will sit. The crud on the lower walls is stains that collected behind the baseboards during the past 48 years. We've scrubbed it, and will prime and paint before installing the taller basebaords.

Southwest corner. The chaise lounge will angle out from this corner. Once the floors are re-finished I'll probably put down a room size rug in shades of taupe, reds, etc.

These colors are not true to life, but they're the best shots I could get. Top to bottom...Picnic table red, Skylark (darker taupe), butterwhite (for ceilings?), and Homespun Linen (for trim?) Mix and match at your will! I will have baseboards, wider window trim, and 3" crown. With or without picture rail.

Bestlawn, your paint chip on the right comes closer to the color.

Need to ask you to take a picture of the color boards again with some light, maybe a flash (I don't know about taking pictures). They're too dark.

Caroline, if you have a scanner, try scanning the paint chips instead of photographing them. The colors may turn out better.

(I learned this from the Kitchens forum. People there recommend scanning granite or tile samples, so you don't get glare from the flash.)

I am not sure if this is what you had in mind with your description but it will give you an idea. Of course how the paint colors appeared on my computer might be different then it did on yours. Also what is the floor - wood or carpet, light or dark?

Oh Clare; that gives me a great idea!

The floors are oak and will probably be stained a lighter color.

A previous owner cut plywood with a circular saw...and put a 6' long, 3/16ths wide gash in the floor in the process, so we'll be putting a room size rug of multi-colors on the floor with the hardwood edges showing.

Would it be much troble to drop the taupe color down about twice as wide and add a light band to represent crown and picture molding on either edge of it?

I've never "thought" this much over one room in my life!

I just realized I forgot the trim. LOL

That is amazing! As soon as I get these rooms painted, I've got to get, and learn, the Photoshop program.

Could you bring the red up to the height of the middle of the top pane of glass. Of course, if this is too much bother, don't. Please let me know if I'm being a pest.

This looks weird on the left side, but the lines have to be parallel to the ceiling. Looks weird because of the angle of the pic.

It doesn't look weird at all. I so appreciate the visuals and you two for taking time out of your day to paint my pictures!

I was joking with Wes, instead of trying to lighten our dark, north room; we're embracing the darkness. (Well that doesn't sound so good, does it? LOL)

The dark red walls, along with the taupe ceiling and trims and dark floors may cause a problem with the tree-shaded window. What if a ray of light tries to enter? He suggested that if that happens, we could just paint the panes of glass! LOL

Seriously, I think I'm going to love the room and if not, "it's only paint." We'll cross that bridge when we come to it. If we can find it in the darkness! LOL

Something that might help is looking up the affect colors have on the psyche. Some can be downright depressing so even though we like them, it might not prove a good idea to have a room painted where we spend a lot of time. I haven't read up on it in years, but it was fun learning about the different colors and combinations.
