Has anyone used Vetro Lux glass tile on backsplash?

How has it held up? Are you happy with it? Any staining or chipping?

We installed "antiqued mirror glass" on the back wall of an elevator. I thought it was a good idea at the time, but in hind sight, would not do it again. If the lighting is not just right (and it's not in our elevator) the "antiquing effect" appears uneven (even if it is even) and it just looks like a dirty mirror. And used as a backsplash under cabinets, you have to realize that the mirror will reflect the underside of your cabinets and under-cabinet lights -- not necessarily attractive. In light of all of this, I'd advise extreme caution. At a minimum, get a large sample piece to try out before ordering. As you have doubtlessly discovered, antiqued mirror glass is not cheap, so it's an expensive mistake if you end up not liking it.

AboutToGetDusty, did they have a fire? I can't imagine doing something on my stove top that would melt anything on the walls. Our range has a back to it, too it's not a countertop inset range. It would require a large fire on the stovetop to affect the wallpaper in our kitchen. Anyway this stuff is not vinyl it is a type of foam, and meets CA fire code or it wouldn't be sold here. ao34, ours is the Allen and Roth brand from lowes, link below. Hi. We installed out kitchen in 2012. We still haven't chosen or decided on a backslpash - it's the painted wall. I have a creamy Egyptian marble, - don't remember the name. I like unstructured European vintage-y kitchens. Many of them don't have backsplashes either. My stainless range has a stainless backsplash directly behind it. I had picked out some mini-clear glass subway tile for the backsplash that coincidentally matches my Prescott Green paint color perfectly but what if I decide to change wall color one day? Just this week I started thinking maybe I made my backsplash tile decision three years ago which was to have none. Our marble installers tried very hard to discourage us from marble in the kitchen but I have not regretted it. All those kitchens in southern Europe can't be wrong. FYI - If you are considering glass backsplash look at a product call 3-Form it comes in an amazing variety of colors,textures and imbedded items, two good friends used it in their kitchens. http://www.3-form.com/ Do what speaks to you in your home. Is a glass tile backsplash *always* considered contemporary?

This is an interesting question. I debated for weeks about putting glass tiles on my backsplash. My GC and designer thought they'd look great, my dh and trusted friends thought it would look too contemporary. In the end we went with plain subway tiles. But I do kind of wish I'd chosen the glass tiles instead. I like the idea of mixing some contemporary elements with some more traditional ones. I've been watching a lot of Divine Design and Candice uses glass tiles a lot on backsplashes, fireplaces, etc. It doesn't always scream "contemporary" to me. If you like the look- go for it!

This was going to be our backsplash but at the last minute we changed granite and it just didn't work with the new choice. I just love it and go back every once in awhile and look at the photos we took of our samples together. What color did choose and what will your cabinets and countertop be?

Cabinets are a stained walnut and counter on perimeter of the kitchen is Bianco Romano (we have Labradour Antique on the island). Went with Bianco Plain Sfalsato tile. So excited for it to be installed - but will still have to wait a couple of weeks :(

Oh, those are just stunning--understated elegance IMO.

FWIW, our Artistic Tile glass tile (Opera Glass) is holding up very nicely. Don't know anything about the quality/sturdiness of Vetro Lux tile vs the Opera Glass tile, but can tell you that some glass tile can and does hold up well against staining and chipping. Only place it has discolored somewhat is just above the vent along the back of the range, which I think any light colored tile might.

cat_mom, those are also beautiful tiles. Love them!

I hope that these hold up as well as yours have. I don't imagine that my kitchen will look pristine forever, but want to ensure that I put in a durable product.
